Description of Services

The Trumbull Senior Center acts as a community resource and conduit to other services available to senior adults, aged 55 and older. The center offers a central location where individuals can receive information and services of interest to older adults. It is also a designated focal point, which provide a comprehensive delivery of services essential for maintaining the health, independence and well-being. The center strives to prevent isolation and encourage socialization.

Transportation Services - The senior transportation department continues to provide effective curbside services to seniors age 60 and over with out transportation or unable to drive. Services include doctor’ s appointments, shopping, nutrition program, dentist appointments and legal appointments.

Program Activities - Ongoing recreation, social, educational, health and social service related programs coordinated through the senior center.

Nutrition Program - The Town of Trumbull and CW Resources collaborate to provide a nutritious lunch daily at the senior center. Lunch is served Monday through Friday at noon. Please make your lunch reservations 2 days in advance. For reservations: call (203-378-3086) 10am-noon

Individual Support - Program scheduling to meet individual needs and interests. The center offers Medicare counseling, 55 alive safe drivers course, a registered nurse available two times per week to monitor height, weight, blood pressure and glucose testing.

Inservice and Continuing Education - attendance by director and commission members at various lectures, workshops and meetings held at facility and outside agencies to keep abreast of services, programs and program changes being offered by local, state and federal government.

Nursing Department - A Geriatric Wellness Nurse, Teresa Cryan, is available at the Trumbull Senior Center on most Wednesdays and Thursdays, usually from 8:30am-3:00pm to: assess and record blood pressure readings and other health parameters, conduct educational programs on health-related topics, assist in making doctor appointments, lead seated exercise programs, coordinate guest speakers on senior wellness topics, and to consult on senior health-related concerns. She is also available at Stern Village Housing in Trumbull to offer these same services on most Mondays, again from 8:30am-3:00pm.

The Social Services Department strives to promote the social well-being, self-sufficiency, and quality of life to the residents of Trumbull by providing needs based services and supports. The Department provides a variety of programs such as benefits screenings, financial assistance, resources, information and assistance, counseling and advocacy. In office and home visits are offered through the department.

All donations made to the Social Services Department are used solely to assist Trumbull residents with heating assistance, food shopping, and emergency housing.
