Description of Services Since 9/11 and more recently Katrina, there is a raised awareness of keeping our families safe from the dangers of natural or man-made disasters. One of our missions, here at the Trumbull Monroe Health District is to help residents prepare for these unfortunate events should they occur. We are working diligently with other Town Agencies (Police, Fire Departments, EMS, etc.) as well as the State of Connecticut Department of Public ealth and have made homeland security a top priority. In February 2006, we successfully completed a drill to test various components of our Emergency Response Plans concentrating on Mass Dispensation of vaccine. This would be the same procedure/plan used in either a smallpox or pandemic influenza scenario. We are pleased to report that with each drill we are better prepared to deal with these and other types of emergencies. In April 2006, a Regional Drill is scheduled to be held in Westport-Weston that we are participating in, to specifically test the Strategic National Stockpile ("SNS") and how it will be delivered to our District in a real-time scenario. If you are interested in volunteering for this drill, please contact us at 452-5195 or come into the office and fill out a volunteer application. Be assured that we will continue to provide information to our District residents, keeping them informed of Public Health related issues (i.e. Pandemic/Avian Flu) and other concerns on the towns' websites and soon on our own district website together with the media. In the coming weeks, we will be providing our residents with information on: 1. How to create an emergency plan for you and your family 2. How to prepare an emergency kit for your family and pets 3. How to respond to biological, chemical, nuclear/radiological threats. Working together, we can prepare for emergencies that may affect our District and help protect ourselves and our families. |
