The Library System offers over 59,000 children’s books many focusing on subjects supporting the school curriculum.  Fiction books are carefully chosen to lead children to develop excellent literacy skills. Children’s DVDs and videos(2,337), spoken word (1,275), educational software (over 100), music CD’s (379), and online databases offer a wide variety of formats. Professional librarians are happy to help children find what they need for homework assignments.  Fifth graders are welcome to visit and attend a mini workshop on how best to do research using great sources at the Library.  Please come and enjoy all the wonderful experiences offered to our youngest readers!  For further information call the Main Library at 452-5197 or Branch Library 452-5196 and the Library website:  www.trumbullct-library.org

Contact: Dispatch John Butz 459-0159

Fire protection to the town of Trumbull is provided by three independent tax districts.
Our volunteers spend hundreds of hours a year training and responding to emergencies.   The vast majority of our members hold the first level of state firefighting certification and many others beyond that.
Through close coordination amongst the three departments, our volunteers respond around the clock and are ready to handle any emergency call.
We offer you excitement, fun, and personally rewarding experiences. We will challenge you mentally and physically in training and in the performance of fire suppression and rescue tasks.
To become a firefighter, you must be at least 16 years of age. Applicants are reviewed and accepted into membership based upon the by-laws of the fire department. You will receive nationally accredited training, the latest in personal protective clothing, a pager, participation awards, and (if your length of service is long enough) a pension.
Social activities and events are scheduled throughout the year to include your family and close personal friends. You are invited to stop by any firehouse: Tuesday night in Long Hill, Thursday night in Nichols and Trumbull Center to check things out. The Kennedy Center
The Kennedy Center provides vocational, educational, recreational and social programs for children, seniors and adults with disabilities. Volunteer opportunities are available for persons over 18 or under 18 years of age in a supervised youth group.
An orientation is provided to volunteers and all volunteer assignments are conducted under the supervision of a trained staff member. Help is needed days, evenings and weekends.
Recreational activities such as sports, arts and crafts, games and various projects are appropriate for teenagers interested in volunteering. The companionship offered by volunteers is especially welcomed by center clients. Time might be spent helping a Kennedy Center member finish a project, or in just talking and being a friend. Teens are especially needed in our “Opportunities Unlimited” program which pairs a volunteer “coach” with a child with special needs in community recreation programs. There are both one-to-one and group activities. This offers an excellent learning opportunity for adolescents who are considering counseling, social work, special education or any social service professions as a career goal. For further information call Kathryn Novak at 365-8522, Ext. 207.
