Submit Anonymous Tips
Underage Drinking Tip
Text a tip to report underage drinking. Trumbull Partnership Against Underage Drinking and Drugs (TPAUD) and Trumbull police promote anonymous tips to curb underage drinking. Citizens can now send anonymous text and web tips to the Trumbull Police Department.
Mobile phone users across Trumbull now have the ability to provide tips through the power of anonymous text messaging and online web tips. The Trumbull Police Department has teamed up with Anderson Software, the industry leader in law enforcement tip management software and web applications, to provide this service which allows citizens to send anonymous tips by sending a text message from a mobile phone or online. The funding for this program was provided by TPAUD.
Underage drinking is a serious matter. Connecticut’s House Party Law is very clear. In Connecticut, it is illegal to host a party where alcohol is consumed by minors. Individuals who knowingly permit minors to possess and/or consume alcohol may be fined, imprisoned, or both. With the financial support of TPAUD, we have been able to implement an anonymous tip line to which residents can report underage drinking.
Anonymity & Security
Using TipSoft Text Tips, information may be anonymously received and securely replied to with complete confidence. The service was built specifically to allow text messaging informants to remain anonymous by encrypting the text messages and routing them through several secure servers, protecting the personal details of the informant.
TipSoft SMS also allows police to respond by text message to the originating cell phone without ever knowing the identity of the individual who left the tip. The user’s information is always given an alias and a unique ID before being sent. This secure application allows the tipster and the investigator to have two-way dialog while always keeping the user’s identity completely anonymous.
The Trumbull Police Department encourages everyone to report information about:
- Crimes that are being planned in the community or schools
- Sale and distribution of drugs
- Underage drinking or any non-urgent illegal activity
- Unsolved cases
To send an anonymous tip to the Trumbull Police Department via cell phone, a tipster will text "TRPD" plus his or her tip information to CRIMES (274637). The tipster then receives a confirmation and a unique code number. The tipster may respond back by simply replying.
No key word or any other identifier is needed for any subsequent contact from that cell phone. The tipster need only text CRIMES (274637) to be connected anonymously. A two-way dialogue through this encrypted system is possible as well, always protecting the anonymity of the tipster. No one will ever know the identity of the tipster.
Text a Tip
There are three main parts to a text message tip:
- The Short Code replaces a phone number. Anonymous Tips are sent to CRIMES (274637).
- Key Words are used to ensure that the tip is directed to the proper place. The keyword for the Trumbull Police Department is "TRPD" or (8773).
- The Message contains the key word initially and then the actual text message.
A tipster sends their first message. He or she texts "TRPD" plus their tip information to CRIMES (274637). The tipster then receives a confirmation and a unique code number. The tipster may respond back by simply replying. No keyword or any other identifier is needed for any subsequent contact from that cell phone.
You (the tipster) need only text CRIMES (274637) and you are connected anonymously. A two-way dialogue through this encrypted system is possible as well, always protecting the anonymity of the tipster. No one will ever know the identity of the tipster.
There is no premium cost for this service. Standard text messaging rates apply for messages sent and received (if applicable). Rates can be confirmed with your service provider.
Tipsters can also submit anonymous tips via the web. In addition to sending the Trumbull Police an anonymous tip from your cell phone, you can also send anonymous tips while you’re online. Send an online web tip.
