Summer Reading Program
June 20 - August 15
(For grades K-6. Kids entering grade 6 can choose between Independent Readers and Teen, but can only participate in one.)
This summer, imagine yourself a knight-in-training. Read books and complete quests to turn yourself into a full-fledged knight. Every week, there will be four new quests for you to complete. There are four types of quests: Create, Explore, Help, and Learn. You will complete crafts and other activities to exercise your creativity, explore your world, help others, and learn new things to gain knowledge. It’s important for knights to be wise, creative, brave, kind, and curious.
Earn one raffle ticket for each quest that you complete. You have until the end of the summer reading program, August 15, to complete as many quests as you can. Be sure to log your reading too! One hour of reading equals one raffle ticket.
(For ages 0-5. Children entering Kindergarten can choose between Pre-readers and Independent Readers, but can only participate in one.)
As a reading knight, you will earn a raffle ticket for every 30 minutes someone reads out loud to you. This can be a parent, sibling, friend, or librarian. It could even be an audiobook!
Every week, there will be four new quests for you to complete. There are four types of quests: Write, Sing, Play, and Talk. These are four of the five early literacy activities adults can do with their children to help them get ready to read. (Read is the fifth!)
Earn one raffle ticket for each quest that you complete. You have until the end of the summer reading program, August 15, to complete as many quests as you can.
Each week, participants in the Independent Readers and Pre-readers programs should email firstname.lastname@example.org with the number of raffle tickets they’ve earned and the letters of the prize packs they want to enter their raffle tickets in. Please include your first and last name in the email. The list of prizes can be found on the Summer Reading website.
