Fall Classic Band Competition

The Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band is in its 34th year of hosting this annual competition at the high school. The Golden Eagle Band is the largest program at the high school and is nationally recognized at various events and competitions, including being chosen to participate in two presidential parades and the Thanksgiving Parade. The Classic allows the roughly 150-member-strong Trumbull High School award winning marching band the opportunity to showcase its talent while hosting a large number of regional bands including their color guards. The Bands are judged on best percussion, best color guard, and best overall effects. This very popular event draws families from throughout the region. Food vendors and booths showcasing music and band-related merchandise are part of the event.

The Trumbull Farmers’ Market is held on the historic Nichols Association grounds which include a playground and park benches. The Market is held Thursdays, 3:30-6:30pm, mid-May through mid-October. Products sold range from fruits, vegetables, baked goods, meats, eggs, cheeses, hummus, fresh bread, pickles, soups, pizza, tacos, sandwiches, beverages, clams and ice cream.
Jingle Bell Run

This very popular 5K run, held the first Saturday each December, is in its 30th year. Sponsored by the Nichols Improvement Association (NIA), the run takes place on the scenic rolling hills through the heart of the Nichols community with one of the best race finishes in Fairfield County. Walkers are also welcome to participate as well as a kids’ 1/3 mile “Fire to the Finish” run. Proceeds help support community events as well as maintenance of the NIA property, ball fields, community playground and the Starkweather House. The event ends with an awards ceremony and post-run refreshments.

Plasko’s Farm, the last remaining fully operating farm in Trumbull, originated in 1925 by the first-generation immigrants from Czechoslovakia, Martin and Mary Plasko. The farm was continued by the next generation, John and Pauline Plasko, who established the 8-acre farm in 1952, as well as 20 acres of additional farmland. In 1997, John Plasko Jr. rebuilt and expanded the farm to not only its original purpose of farming sweet corn and other produce, but also to include a nursery, country store, bakery – serving their famous apple cider and pumpkin spice doughnuts - and most recently, a seasonal creamery which serves homemade ice cream and Italian ices which are made fresh daily. They have turned the Farm into a 4-season facility and are passionate about maintaining the rural charm that characterizes Trumbull.

SeaQuest, an interactive aquarium/facility, is home to approximately 1,200 animals of 300 different species. They come from different sources with many coming from rescues or from homes where they have outgrown their habitats. Others come injured and in need of care and rehabilitation. Visitors can expect to see stingrays, sharks, tortoises, snakes, lizards, insects, birds, sloths, otters, baby goats and more. They offer birthday parties, private/fundraising events and field trips. SeaQuest sells single day passes, monthly and lifetime available.

Biking practice and racing track for up to 8 participants. BMX means adrenaline, big jumps and big air, steep backsides, deep turns, downhill sections and massive speeds. All ages are welcome and represented. Loaner bikes and helmets are available for a fee. There is a $5.00 cost to practice, a $5.00 cost to borrow equipment and $8.00 to race. Riders need to have a USA BMX membership for a cost of $60 for a pedal biker and $30 for a balance biker which is good for a full year. Private and group lessons are available. Any USA BMX member can register for any regular or special race. Registrants are grouped by age and ability; novice, intermediate or expert. Check the website for open practice and race times. The Great Pumpkin Classic Run

This extremely popular 5K road race attracts runners and walkers from throughout the region each October. Proceeds support the Trumbull Scholarship Program generating more than $100,000 in its 25 years. The event begins with the Kid’s Fun Run, followed by a 2-mile Health Walk and then the feature event, the Great Pumpkin Classic 5K Road Race which is ranked in the top 50 races in New England for the past 10 years.
Trumbull Rotary Sunset Run

This premiere event held at the end of July, is in its 20th year. The run brings out family and friends of all ages, while raising funds that are channeled back into the Trumbull community. The run features a shaded, scenic run through the streets of the Twin Brook & Pinewood Lake neighborhood, with rolling hills for the first half followed by a 'net' downhill and long flat to the finish. There is a free 1 mile health walk as well as a kids’ fun run. After the run, participants are welcome to remain in the park and enjoy refreshments with the other runners and their friends and families.
