5/16/23: Route 111 Traffic Signal and Roadway Project Update

Road Work Sign (JPG)

5/16/23 Update: Work on the Route 111 Traffic Signal and Roadway Project is currently in progress and is expected to continue into August to completion. The remaining work generally includes the installation of the traffic signal at the shopping plaza occupied by Prime One Eleven and The Fitness Edge, the Pequonnock River Trail extension/crossing relocation, Woodland Hills driveway modifications, final roadway improvements, and landscaping.

The contractor began working yesterday on placing the sidewalks ramps at the plaza driveway intersection (both sides of Route 111), paving the remainder of the multi-purpose trail (east side of Route 111), and the modifications on the Woodland Hills Driveway. This work will continue for the next few weeks.

The anticipated schedule for the entire project is dependent on timely deliveries of materials and inspection/acceptance by the DOT and is subject to change due to inclement weather and unforeseen conditions. Temporary lane closures are expected throughout the remaining work schedule.

We will keep you updated as the project continues.  Please use caution passing through the area.

4/20/23 Update: Work on the Route 111 Traffic Signal and Roadway Project is currently in progress and is expected to continue into August to substantial completion. The remaining work generally includes the installation of the traffic signal at the shopping plaza occupied by Prime One Eleven and The Fitness Edge, the Pequonnock River Trail extension/crossing relocation, Woodland Hills driveway modifications, final roadway improvements, and landscaping.

Installation of the traffic signal and equipment at the shopping plaza is tentatively scheduled for mid-May through the beginning of June. Testing and inspection of the signal will follow installation, at which point the signal may be bagged and covered or set to a flashing sequence. It is anticipated that the signal will be put into full operation by the end of June.

Extension of the Pequonnock River Trail will continue into May and will include the final paving of the multi-use trail, concrete sidewalks, and sidewalk ramps. Once the signal is put into operation, the trail will be opened to pedestrians allowing for crossing of Route 111 at the signal. The current crossing at Old Mine Road and rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) will then be decommissioned and removed.

The final roadway widening, modification of the Woodland Hills driveway, and milling and paving will follow and are anticipated to occur between mid-May through July. Final furnishings such as fencing, signs, and landscaping will bring the project to substantial completion.

The anticipated schedule is dependent on timely deliveries of materials and inspection/acceptance by the DOT and is subject to change due to inclement weather and unforeseen conditions. Temporary lane closures are expected throughout the remaining work schedule. Updates on the project schedule will be given periodically and at critical milestones.   Funding for this project was made possible through a grant from the Local Transportation Capital Improvement Program (LOTCIP).
