In response to increasing thefts of certain models of Hyundai and KIA vehicles, Hyundai donated free steering wheel locks to the Trumbull Police Department to provide to town residents that own these vehicles.
Hyundai and Kia vehicles with keyed ignitions and lack an immobilizer are the vehicles targeted by these thieves. Hyundai and Kia have been working on providing anti-theft software upgrades for these vehicles, but they have provided these locks in the mean-time in attempts to deter these vehicle thefts.
To get a free lock, Hyundai or KIA vehicle owners/lessees must be a Trumbull resident, and provide their vehicle’s registration at the Trumbull Police Department. The locks will be provided on a first come, first serve basis, and since there is a limited supply of locks only one lock will be issued per vehicle.
