[ARCHIVED] Trumbull Memorial Day Parade on Monday, 5/27/13

First Selectman Timothy M. Herbst along with American Legion Post 141 and VFW Post 10059 have completed plans for the upcoming Memorial Day Parade, Monday, May 27, 2013.

“Our parade is an event made possible by the partnership of our Town’s Veterans’ Organizations in conjunction with our Town departments, a cadre of resident volunteers, youth and civic organizations and performing marching bands,” said the First Selectman. “We hope the community will come out in full force this year in honoring those that serve our nation.”

The day begins with a ceremony at the Vietnam War Memorial on White Plains Road at 7:30 A.M. The Memorial Day Ceremony on the Town Hall Green will begin at 8:30 A.M. honoring all our deceased veterans from all wars.

The Grand Marshall for the parade, Lt. Col. Charles Anderson, will be the guest speaker. Lt. Col. Anderson, is Commanding Officer of the 2nd Battalion, 169th Regional Training Institute of the Connecticut Army National Guard. Lt. Col. Anderson served in Afghanistan where he earned a Combat/Infantryman’s Badge (CAB), Bronze Star medal and a Purple Heart for wounds received in combat with the enemy.

The winning theme this year submitted by Jason Wegiel of Frenchtown School is “Honoring the Ultimate Sacrifice”. Jason will be marching in the parade with the Grand Marshall.

Marching in the parade will be our Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band, the Madison Middle School and the Hillcrest Middle School bands. Local dignitaries, Civic organizations, fire companies, scouts and sports leagues will provide marching units.

The parade will begin at 10:00 A.M. (Please note the change) on Route 111 (in front of Marisa’s Restaurant) and proceed to the Town Hall.

All scouting troops, as well as sports leagues must be in uniform in order to march this year. We will ask each group to have appropriate standard bearers identifying individual units or sections. All groups will assemble at the parking lot in front of Marisa’s Restaurant (See Assembly List below.)

To avoid injuries to participants and spectators, the Committee and the Police Department are informing all participants marching or on floats that there is absolutely NO throwing of candy, beads or any objects to the observers, nor should observers throw any items to the marchers or float participants.

We are looking forward to another successful parade in which we can honor all our servicemen both past and present for all their sacrifices. In the event the parade is canceled due to inclement weather, an announcement will be made on WICC 600 AM and WEBE 107.9 FM radio prior to 6:00 A.M. If the parade is canceled due to inclement weather, Memorial Service will be held in the Council Chambers of Town Hall.

Mr. Herbst is looking forward to another memorable parade as First Selectman. Mr. Herbst hopes it will again be as successful as the past years. The Committee is looking forward to this exciting time of patriotic feelings, soaring flags, and heart-felt prayers for our servicemen and the wish for peace around the world.
