Anime Day: Chibi Figures Monday, April 15th is 'National Anime Day!' This program is to celebrate this event! Teens will work with Crayola Model Magic and create their own 'Manga Chibi' creation. Participants are given the main colors of red, yellow, blue, black and white to mix together to create all the colors they will use on their own chibi anime characters. All materials will be provided. Registration is required. For teens ages 12 - 17. Teen Canvas Tote Bag Painting Tuesday, April 16th from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Paint your own tote bag using acrylic paints! Playful Engineers: Artful Mechanisms! Wednesday, April 10th from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Join us for this STEM focused workshop, where participants design, build, test, and construct your own 'artful mechanism' using popsicle stick linkages, and paper clip crankshafts. You'll build a basic mechanical structure, overlaying your own design as the output to send a message, tell a story, accomplish a task, or bring a character to life. Frederick Law Olmsted and The Importance of Historic Landscapes Wednesday, April 17th from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of American landscape architecture, was born in Hartford in 1822. To commemorate the 200th anniversary of his birth, the Connecticut State Historic Preservation Office and Preservation Connecticut commissioned a study of the Olmsted heritage in the state. Christopher Wigren of Preservation Connecticut will describe how Olmsted’s achievements were shaped by his Connecticut upbringing, present some of the Olmsted firm’s landscape works in the state and discuss how historic landscapes contribute to the quality of modern-day life.
