Mah Jongg for Beginners Wednesday, July 9th from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Learn to play American Mah Jongg with Rhonda Greiff, a passionate local instructor who has taught hundreds of players in Fairfield & Westchester Counties. Come learn this intriguing ancient Chinese tile game of skill and luck as developed by the National Mah Jongg League. Students should plan to attend all three classes (July 9th, July 16th, July 23rd), but the 1st class is mandatory. Register here. 

Adult Fiction Book Club Thursday, July 10th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Join us as we discuss The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. We have a limited number of copies of this month's book available for check out at the main branch circulation desk. Register here. 

Postcard Poetry Thursday, July 10th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Join us for postcards & found poetry! We'll cut, collage, and create freeform poems from magazines, books, and more — ready to send to friends or loved ones. Supplies provided. Register here. 

Silent Book Club Thursday, July 10th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Do you have trouble making time to read? Is your home full of distractions? Are you an introvert who still enjoys a chance to get out of the house? If any of these situations apply to you, come to a meeting of our own chapter of Silent Book Club. Unlike a traditional book club, there are no assigned readings and no deadlines. Bring a book of your own choosing, or pick out a new one at the library, and we’ll have an hour of silent reading time together. Light refreshments will also be provided, and you can also bring your own snacks or music to listen to (with headphones). Register here.

Drop-In Tech Help Friday, July 11th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Feeling frustrated or simply in need of a quick tutorial? Drop-in tech help is available to assist you with less complex computer issues that require 15 -20 minutes of help. These sessions are educational in nature, and patrons should have a clear goal of what they would like to learn during their session. 

Your Library at Home: Managing Your Account Online Saturday, July 12th from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Skip the phone call and skip the desk! Learn how to manage your Trumbull Library account from the comfort of home. We’ll show you how to check due dates, renew books, place holds, pay fines, and reset your PIN—all online, whether you're on your computer or smartphone. Registration is not required, but you can register if you'd like to ensure a spot and receive a reminder email.

Vanderbilt Mansions of the Gilded Age Part 1 Monday, July 14th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Vanderbilt family were once the wealthiest family in the United States. Cornelius Vanderbilt amassed a fortune of $100 million, his son doubled it to $200 million. The vast wealth allowed the family to build impressive city mansions and country estates, many of which are preserved. Part One focuses on the New York City and Newport mansions of Cornelius Vanderbilt II and William Kissam Vanderbilt. Register here.

Art of Mindfulness with Studio 13 Thursday, July 15th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Looking for a way to become more mindful? Come learn these creative techniques that help ground you in the present moment, led by Amy of Studio 13. Following a guided meditation featuring the relaxing sounds of gongs and singing bowls we will begin our process-art pieces, getting lost in the meandering lines and color, becoming mindful of the moment through our senses. Every participant will leave with an art kit and the knowledge to bring this practice to everyday life. Register here.

Family Movie Matinee Friday, June 27th from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Come and join us at the library for a fun family movie. We will watch My Neighbor Totoro, Rated G. Please bring something comfy to sit on. Register here. 

Toddler Time (Walkers-Age 3) Monday, June 30th from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Come and join us for some music and movement at the library! We will sing, dance, and read together. This is a drop-in program. No registration required.

Preschool Time (Age 3-5) Monday, June 30th from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Ages 3-5. Join Miss Kristine for circle time, stories, and complete a simple craft. Registration is not required.

Aquarium 101 (All ages) Monday, June 30th from 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Everyone loves the aquarium in the Children's Department! Drop-by and our friendly and knowledgeable aquarium technician will show you how he takes care of our fish, answer your questions, and we will read some fish tales! 

Toddler Time (Walkers-Age 3) Tuesday, July 1st from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Come and join us for some music and movement at the library! We will sing, dance, and read together. This is a drop-in program. No registration required.

New Baby Meet-Up (parent & baby) Tuesday, July 1st from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your infant to the library for a casual meet-up with other new parents. A perfect opportunity to meet other new parents, chat, compare experiences, find parenting resources, and get out with your new baby.  No registration required.

Baby Time (Birth-walking) Wednesday, July 2nd from 11 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. Ages birth to walking. Listen to a story, sing songs, and perform fingerplays. Registration is not required.

Family Movie Night Wednesday, July 2nd from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Come and join us at the library for a fun family movie. We will watch The Little Mermaid (live action), Rated PG. Please bring something comfy to sit on. Registration is required.

Scales & Tales: A Beginner’s Guide to Fantasy Role-Playing Saturday, July 5th from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Join Miss Katie for a beginner fantasy role-playing game! Participants will make a character sheet to create the heroes and use a personality generator to help learn more about the characters in the game. No RPG experience required! Register here. 

TEEN PROGRAMMING

Chain Reactions Grades 8-12 Friday, July 11th from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. "Playful Engineers" brings their travelling STEM workshops for participants to design, build, test, and play with chain reactions and creative contraptions, like Rube Goldberg Machines, paper constructions, domino towers, exploding popsicle-stick snakes, and other awesome engineering explorations. This session is geared towards teens in grades 8-12. Registration is required. 

Kawaii Paper Animal Crafts Thursday, July 17th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Teens will get the opportunity to create a variety of cute paper-craft animals including: rabbits, octopus, peacock, a fox and frog. For grades 6-12. Registration required.

Crochet Workshop (Gr. 4-8) Saturday, July 19th from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. If you are interested in learning to crochet, this is the program for you! You will learn some basics and go home with a project to show off. Registration is required.

Fairchild Nichols

Tiny Tales 2s, 3s and 4s Tuesday, July 1st from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Come join Miss Niki for story time! We will have a little bit of stories a little bit of music and a show stopping craft. Registration required. Ages 2-4.

Lego Fun Time Tuesday, July 1st from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Do you like Legos? Are you a master builder? Do you enjoy making Lego creations with others. Join our Lego Master Michael and show us what you can do!!! Ages 8 and up. Drop In.
