Vanderbilt Mansions of The Gilded Age, Part Two Tuesday, September 16th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Vanderbilt family were once the wealthiest family in the United States. Cornelius Vanderbilt amassed a fortune of $100 million, his son doubled it to $200 million. The vast wealth allowed the family to build impressive city mansions and country estates, many of which are preserved. Part Two focuses on the mansions of Frederick Vanderbilt and William Kissam Vanderbilt’s lesser-known Long Island estate, Idle Hour. Register here. 

Just Write Peer Writing Group Tuesday, September 16th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Considering a memoir? Dabbling in poetry? Composing essays? Join us at JUST WRITE - a welcoming group for adults who love putting words on the page. We share our work with fellow writers and offer positive, constructive feedback and encouragement. Registration is encouraged but not required.

Democracy and the Constitution with State Senator Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox Wednesday, September 24th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Join State Senator and Deputy Majority Leader, Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox in a conversation about how our Constitution has balanced power and promoted the public interest since its founding. What conversations should we be having right now about our most fundamental constitutional principles? How will the current interpretations of this founding document impact how our government functions well into the future? What aspects of the founders’ vision of government have been strained over time, especially in recent years, and how can we respond to protect our constitutional republic and to help ensure a meaningful democracy? Register here. 

Community Puzzle Swap Saturday, September 27th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Take a puzzle, leave a puzzle! Join us to swap out your old jigsaw puzzles for new-to-you puzzles. Puzzles must be 300 pieces or more, in good condition, with all pieces present. Please have the puzzle pieces inside a plastic bag in the box. 

Shakespeare’s Queens Sunday, September 28th from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Created and performed by Shakespearean actress, Poornima Kirby, this jewel of a play dances between Elizabeth’s story, and Shakespeare’s own life as a writer and father to two strong-minded daughters. With history, humor and sparkling poetry, Shakespeare’s Queens is a heartfelt and refreshing exploration of some of the bard’s loveliest verse. Register here. 

CHILDRENS

Toddler Time (Walkers-Age 3) Monday, September 15th from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Come and join us for some music and movement at the library! We will sing, dance, and read together. This is a drop-in program. No registration required.

Preschool Time (Age 3-5) Monday, September 15th from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Join Miss Kristine for circle time, stories, and complete a simple craft. Registration is not required.

Builders Brigade (Gr. K-5) Monday, September 15th from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Elementary age kids can come and use their creativity to build something fun and unique using Lego blocks and Magna Tiles. All built items will remain at the library. This is a drop-in program. No registration required.

Paint Like Monet Tuesday, September 16th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Learn how to draw water lilies using pastels and watercolors to make a painting like Claude Monet! This program is for grades 4-6 only. Registration is required as supplies are limited.

New Baby Meet-Up Tuesday, September 16th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your infant to the library for a casual meet-up with other new parents. A perfect opportunity to meet other new parents, chat, compare experiences, find parenting resources, and get out with your new baby. No registration required. 

Baby Time (Birth-walking) Wednesday, September 17th from 11 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. Ages birth to walking. Listen to a story, sing songs, and perform fingerplays. Registration is not required.

Preschool Time (Ages 3-5) Thursday, September 18th from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Join Miss Katie for circle time, stories, and complete a simple craft. Registration is not required. 

Miss Claudia Sings a Story Friday, September 19th from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Join Miss Claudia for a musical storytime! Ages 2-5. Younger/older siblings welcome. Registration is not required.

Slime! (Gr. K-5) Friday, September 19th from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. If you like slime, you are in luck because we will be making tons of slime at the library! Space is limited so registration is required. 

TEEN PROGRAMMING

Teen R&R Monday, September 22nd from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. In this program, teens will be encouraged to relax with a variety of low-key activities each session. These activities will change each month but may include coloring pages, Lego blocks, simple crafts, etc. Snacks will be provided. Registration is required. Supplies and space are limited, and activities are for youth age group only. 

DROP IN: Button Making Saturday, September 27th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Drop into the Merwin Room to make a button pin! All supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring any stickers, or drawings you want turned into a button. This is a family program and registration is NOT required, but materials are first come, first serve.

Fairchild Nichols

The Singing Bowl Experience with Amy Ordonez Saturday, September 13th from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Join us for this one-of-a-kind experience that blends informative lecture with hands on exploration. This hour-long class is perfect for anyone curious about the power of sound healing with singing bowls.  Adults only. Registration required.

Tiny Tales 2s, 3s and 4s Tuesday, September 16th from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Come join Miss Niki for story time! We will have a little bit of stories a little bit of music and a show stopping craft. Register here. Ages 2-4.

Michele Urban Music presents "Dinosaur Roar" Saturday, September 27th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Find Your Dinosaur Roar is a “dino-mite, prehistoric, music adventure” that will have your families roaring with delight! Find your own dinosaur roar as you stomp, chomp, dance and sing along to Michele’s silly dino-songs that explore important themes, like feelings, fears, diversity, kindness and inclusion. And, of course, kids have tons of fun sharing knowledge of dinosaur facts! Ages 2-8. Register here.

Autism and Parenting Monday, September 29th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Join Jeremy Farrell and Fairchild Nichols Library in an educational presentation on autism, neurodiversity and parenting.  This presentation is designed to give insights and strategies for parents of autistic individuals.  Jeremy is an autistic individual himself and brings a very personal perspective, understanding and empathy to this presentation. Register here.
