Local Authors Writing & Publishing Event Saturday, October 11th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Join us for a special afternoon with local contemporary romance authors as they pull back the curtain on the writing life. Whether you’re a devoted reader, an aspiring writer, or simply curious about how love stories are brought to life, this event offers a unique chance to hear directly from the storytellers themselves. Register here.

Ghost Stories to Scare the Dickens Out of You Sunday, October 12th from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. In early Victorian England, ghost stories were told at Christmastime. The tradition of celebrating the dead at the end of October (now Halloween) had declined in England, but was still observed by the Irish and Scots, who brought it to America. In 1853, Charles Dickens began public readings of shortened versions of his books, and this event will carry on his story-reading traditions. Register here.

Tarot Cards for Fun, Fortune-Telling, or Finding Yourself Wednesday, October 15th from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Curious about Tarot but not sure where to start? This beginner-friendly workshop offers an approachable introduction, whether you want to use them for predicting the future, as a tool for secular self-reflection, or just entertainment. We'll explore different theories about how Tarot works (with or without magic), learn the basic meanings of the cards, and look at common spreads. You’ll get practical tips for interpreting readings, plus a chance to try out your own mini-readings, either solo or with a partner. No experience necessary, and we'll provide a variety of different Tarot decks to practice with. Register here.

Community Companion Homes: Open Your Heart & Your Home Saturday, October 18th from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Join us for an informational session with Aspire Living & Learning, a nonprofit human services agency, to learn about becoming a Community Companion Home (CCH) provider. This program offers caring individuals and families the chance to open their homes to people with physical, medical, or developmental disabilities, providing them with support and companionship in a safe, welcoming environment. Rails to Trails: A Local History Bike Tour Sunday, October 19th from 11 a.m. 2 p.m. Local Trumbull Historian Sue Del Bianco will take cyclists back in time to when train was king in the Trumbull Valley. Sue will be stopping off at many historical points-of-interest along the rail-trail: a cow tunnel, site of a train wreck, remains of an amusement park, a mill, a mining company, two train stations, and a reputed witch's gravesite. Please meet at Tait Road Parking Lot. If you are local, we encourage you to bike to the meeting location as parking can become an issue. Register here.

The Dark Side of the Paranormal Sunday, October 19th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This educational program from the Eastern CT Paranormal Society will explore the notion of evil in the paranormal field. Do demons really exist? If so, what are they? How does it all work? Evidence from real-life case studies will be presented, to separate myth from fact. Other aspects of demonology and angelology will also be discussed. Registration is optional but encouraged.
