Cass Gilbert: American Architect Tuesday, February 17th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Join The Bowtie Historian, Dr. Jason Scappaticci, and learn about American Architect Cass Gilbert. Gilbert designed some of the most famous buildings of early twentieth century America. He was one of the first celebrity architects in the United States. His buildings include the Woolworth Building and the United States Supreme Court. Register here. 

Just Write Peer Writing Group Tuesday, February 17th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Considering a memoir? Dabbling in poetry? Composing essays? Join us at Just Write –  a welcoming group for adults who love putting words on the page. We share our work with fellow writers and offer positive, constructive feedback and encouragement. All types of writing are welcome: fiction, nonfiction, poetry, memoirs, blog posts, essays, and more. Our policy is to focus on the quality of the piece and not the content. Come to read, listen, and encourage your fellow scribblers! Registration is encouraged but not required. 

The Spotted Lanternfly: Connecticut's Uninvited Guest Wednesday, February 18th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The spotted lanternfly has become impossible to miss in Connecticut, turning up on trees, patios, and cars across the state. Join Dr. Gale Ridge, director of the Insect Information Office at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station and one of the nation’s leading entomologists, for an informative presentation about this fast-spreading invasive species. Dr. Ridge will discuss how the lanternfly arrived in the United States, how it spreads and reproduces, and what each of us can do to reduce its impact. Learn how to identify the insect at every stage of its life cycle and get practical advice for protecting the plants and trees in your own backyard. Register here. 

Adult Programming

The Yarn Darlings Wednesday, February 18th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Join our fiber arts group! We will meet every other Wednesday. Bring your knitting, crocheting, needle punching, needle felting, or any other yarn craft to work on while socializing with other crafters. All skill levels are welcome. Registration is requested for the group but not required. 

Connecticut Food & Wine: A History Thursday, February 19th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Join authors and University of Bridgeport professors Eric D. Lehman and Amy Nawrocki for a discussion on the History of Connecticut Food and Wine. This presentation is for every food lover who appreciates the story behind a meal, every wine-lover who wants to know the local secrets, and for every budding chef who longs for the recipes of favorite local dishes. Silent Book Club Thursday, February 19th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Do you have trouble making time to read? Is your home full of distractions? Are you an introvert who still enjoys a chance to get out of the house? If any of these situations apply to you, come to a meeting of our own chapter of Silent Book Club. Unlike a traditional book club, there are no assigned readings and no deadlines. Bring a book of your own choosing, or pick out a new one at the library, and we’ll have an hour of silent reading time together. Light refreshments will also be provided, and you can also bring your own snacks or music to listen to (with headphones). Reading time is 6:30-7:30 p.m. Register here.

Sunday Concert: A Tribute to Dean Martin Sunday, February 22nd from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Dean Martin, the consummate performer. Dino did it all – recording artist, comedian, actor, TV star and night club performer. No one else could put across a romantic, Italian love song like Dino and he is still one of the most beloved singer/crooners of all time. Performing a tribute to Dean Martin and Pals, is Jack Lynn. Join us!
Genealogy I Tuesday, February 24th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Carol Ansel, Director at the Godfrey Memorial Library in Middletown, will present the ABC’s of beginning genealogy, with an emphasis on the 8 (or so) basic types of genealogical records—where you can find them and how best to use them. She will include plenty of personal anecdotes to help you learn from both her mistakes and her successes. Drop-In Valentine's Day Card Making Saturday, February 14th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Children (grades K-5) are welcome to drop in to the library to make a last-minute Valentine’s Day card for someone they love!  No registration required, but supplies are first come first serve. 

Toddler Time (Walkers-Age 3) Tuesday, February 17th from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Come and join us for some music and movement at the library! We will sing, dance, and read together. This is a drop-in program. No registration required. This program is held in the Community Room.

Baby Time (Birth-walking) Wednesday, February 18th from 11 a.m. to 11:20 a.m. Ages birth to walking. Listen to a story, sing songs, and perform fingerplays. Registration is not required.

Preschool Time (Ages 3-5) Thursday, February 19th from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Join Miss Katie for circle time, stories, and complete a simple craft. Registration is not required.

Book Dragons Book Club (Gr. 1-2) Thursday, February 19th from 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. This month we will be discussing The Poodle of Doom by Susan Tan. Copies of the book will be available for check-out at the Children's Desk at the Main Branch. Registration is encouraged.

Miss Claudia Sings a Story Friday, February 20th from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Join Miss Claudia for a musical storytime! Ages 2-5. Younger/Older siblings welcome. Registration is not required.

TEEN PROGRAMMING

Teen Tiny Book Workshop Wednesday, February 18th from 5:30 p.m. What’s better than your favorite book? A tiny version of your favorite book! Teens in grades 6th-9th will get to create 1.5-inch replicas of popular books that they can then turn into keychains, jewelry, or other items. Registration is required. 

Teen (P)SAT Exam Saturday, February 21st from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Get the experience you need to succeed on test day by taking a full-length SAT practice test. You'll get an interactive score report to help you evaluate your strengths and weaknesses so you can start improving your score right away! This program is online only and hosted by Princeton. Creator's Corner Drop In Wednesday, February 18h from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Drop in and use our 3D printer to create! Ages 8 and up.

cARTie Museum Bus Story Time (Ages 2-5) Monday, February 23rd from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Come join the cARTie Crew for a magical museum story time adventure. Expect to learn about different ways of looking at and enjoying art through song, movement, artmaking, exploration, and stories. The cARTie bus is a wheelchair friendly sensory rich space. Register here.
