Trumbull Rotary Partners with Community to Celebrate Reading and FriendshipThe annual "Read Aloud", sponsored by the Trumbull Rotary Club, took place this month in all Trumbull Public Schools elementary schools and most private elementary schools. On October 15 and 16, volunteer readers came into all PreK-grade 5 classrooms to read a book to our students. The books were selected by Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Sue Iwanicki, and K-5 Program Leader, Kate Engeldrum, around the theme, "A Friend Like You!" They were generously donated by the Trumbull Rotary Club so that every class could keep a copy of the book in their class to explore when the reader had finished. The volunteer readers included Board of Education members, the First Selectman, members of the Trumbull Library, Trumbull Police Department, YMCA, and many others representing our community. We gratefully thank everyone who participated.

First Responders Recognized for Lifesaving EffortAt the October 6, 2025 Town Council meeting, Trumbull Police Officer James Sota, Paramedic Aiden Vrlik, and EMT John Wells were recognized for their lifesaving efforts. In September, Officer Sota and other officers responded to a home in Trumbull where a 10-month-old baby girl was choking. Upon arrival, Officer Sota saw the infant's lips and mouth turning blue and immediately used a medical device called a Life Vac from his medical kit. Working with the child's parents, he helped partially dislodge the food blocking the airway. Because of his fast action, the child began breathing again. Paramedic Vrlik and EMT Wells from Trumbull EMS arrived right after, and they dislodged the rest of the food that was trapped in her throat, using another type of medical device. EMS transported the baby to the hospital for evaluation, and she's perfectly healthy. The rapid response of the officer using the Life Vac device and Trumbull EMS is beyond admirable, and we owe a debt of gratitude to Officer Sota and to Paramedic Vrlik and EMT Wells.

Trumbull EMS Now Carries Whole Blood on AmbulancesThrough a collaborative partnership with Bridgeport Hospital, Trumbull EMS paramedics are now equipped with the tools and education necessary for paramedics to administer blood transfusions directly in their ambulances at the point of care. It is recognized that when assessing and treating bleeding patients, every second matters. The ability to transfuse blood prior to arriving at the hospital improves patient outcomes by addressing hemorrhagic shock during the most critical time, stabilizing patients until they arrive at the hospital for ongoing treatment and mitigating the effects of severe blood loss in critically injured and/or bleeding patients. Adding blood to Trumbull EMS's clinical scope will without a doubt save lives.

Recycling TipsCurbside Recycling: Do you ever wonder where your single stream recycling goes after it gets picked up from your curbside? The items are transported to Interstate Waste’s Materials Recovery Facility in Shelton, CT where they are sorted and processed. Click here for an insider look into the facility: Tour-of-Material-Recovery-Facility Trumbull residents can follow these few, simple recycling steps to help ensure our items can be recycled: - Do NOT place your recyclables in a plastic bag. Keep items loose.
- Do NOT recycle styrofoam, textiles, empty plastic bags, items smaller than 2 inches, or any other non-recyclable items.
- Empty and rinse your items (no need to clean excessively).
- Do NOT use the number inside the recycling triangle as a guide. This only indicates the chemicals in the plastics, not if it can be recycled in CT. Bottles, jars, tubs, jugs, and containers can be recycled.
- If in doubt, visit Recycle CT to see what is accepted curbside.
Additional Recycling: What do you do with items that are not recyclable curbside? Check out the town website for opportunities to recycle textiles, plastic bags and film, and many other small items that typically go in the trash. Trumbull Recycling
