Silent Book Club Thursday, October 15th from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Do you have trouble making time to read? Is your home full of distractions? Are you an introvert who still enjoys a chance to get out of the house? If any of these situations apply to you, come to a meeting of our own chapter of Silent Book Club. Unlike a traditional book club, there are no assigned readings and no deadlines. Bring a book of your own choosing, or pick out a new one at the library, and we’ll have an hour of silent reading time together. Light refreshments will also be provided, and you can also bring your own snacks or music to listen to (with headphones). Register here.
Falcon Repertory Company Presents: A Life in the Theatre, A Play by David Mamet Saturday, November 7th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A Life in the Theatre by David Mamet is a witty and insightful two-person play that explores the complex relationship between an experienced stage actor and a young newcomer. Set entirely backstage during a repertory season, the play follows the veteran Robert as he attempts to mentor—and sometimes compete with—his ambitious colleague John. Through a series of short scenes that unfold between performances, rehearsals, and dressing-room conversations, Mamet reveals the insecurities, rivalries, humor, and fragile ego that come with life in the theater.

In Conversation: Ethan Rutherford Sunday, November 8th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Join us for a special afternoon with acclaimed Connecticut author Ethan Rutherford, whose debut novel, North Sun: Or, The Voyage of the Whaleship Esther, was a finalist for the 2025 National Book Award for Fiction. Set during the waning days of the American whaling industry, North Sun follows the crew of the Esther as they set sail from New Bedford in 1878, bound for the northern whaling grounds. As the ship pushes toward the remote Chukchi Sea and Captain Arnold Lovejoy pursues a mysterious mission of his own, the voyage grows increasingly dangerous, strange, and haunting. Part high-seas adventure and part modern myth, North Sun explores ambition, survival, and the devastating consequences of humanity's desire to conquer the natural world. The program will include a live conversation with Rutherford followed by an audience Q&A. Books will be available for purchase courtesy of Black Rock Books, and a book signing will follow the discussion. This event is free and open to the public, generously sponsored by the Friends of the Trumbull Library. Registration is required.
