Falcon Repertory Company Presents: A Life in the Theatre, A Play by David Mamet Saturday, November 7th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A Life in the Theatre by David Mamet is a witty and insightful two-person play that explores the complex relationship between an experienced stage actor and a young newcomer. Set entirely backstage during a repertory season, the play follows the veteran Robert as he attempts to mentor—and sometimes compete with—his ambitious colleague John. Through a series of short scenes that unfold between performances, rehearsals, and dressing-room conversations, Mamet reveals the insecurities, rivalries, humor, and fragile ego that come with life in the theater. In Conversation: Ethan Rutherford Sunday, November 8th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Join us for a special afternoon with acclaimed Connecticut author Ethan Rutherford, whose debut novel, North Sun: Or, The Voyage of the Whaleship Esther, was a finalist for the 2025 National Book Award for Fiction. Set during the waning days of the American whaling industry, North Sun follows the crew of the Esther as they set sail from New Bedford in 1878, bound for the northern whaling grounds. As the ship pushes toward the remote Chukchi Sea and Captain Arnold Lovejoy pursues a mysterious mission of his own, the voyage grows increasingly dangerous, strange, and haunting. Part high-seas adventure and part modern myth, North Sun explores ambition, survival, and the devastating consequences of humanity's desire to conquer the natural world. The program will include a live conversation with Rutherford followed by an audience Q&A. Books will be available for purchase courtesy of Black Rock Books, and a book signing will follow the discussion. This event is free and open to the public, generously sponsored by the Friends of the Trumbull Library. Registration is required. The Night of Broken Glass: A Story of Survival and Remembrance Monday, November 9th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Eighty years ago, Nazi storm troopers carried out a coordinated attack against Jewish communities across Germany and Austria. Known as Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, the violence left synagogues, homes, schools, and businesses destroyed and marked a devastating turning point in the persecution of European Jews. Join us for a special Kristallnacht commemoration featuring Trumbull resident and award-winning author Deborah Levison. Deborah will share the story of her parents, who survived ghettos, forced labor camps, concentration camps, and death marches during the Holocaust, while many members of their families and communities did not survive. Register here. Film Club: Most anticipated Fall Movies Tuesday, November 10th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Join Film Critic Joe Meyers for a discussion on what to add to your Fall Movie list. And the latest on new shows streaming. Register here. Ghost Ship: The Mystery of the Mary Celeste with The Bow Tie Historian Thursday, November 12th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. This lecture explores the enduring enigma of the Mary Celeste, the 19th-century merchant ship found adrift in the Atlantic with no sign of its crew. We’ll examine the known facts of the voyage, the condition of the ship when it was discovered, and the many theories — ranging from the practical to the fantastical — that attempt to explain the disappearance. Separating myth from evidence, the talk reveals how one maritime incident became one of history’s most famous ghost-ship legends. Register here.
