Welcome Back to School! The Trumbull Public Schools were excited to welcome students, staff, and families back on Tuesday, August 26! This year, we embrace the district-wide theme: “Empowered to Thrive: Skills for Life, Learning, and Growth.” This theme reflects our commitment to nurturing the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally. It’s rooted in our Vision of the Graduate, which emphasizes the development of critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration, growth mindset, innovation, emotional intelligence, integrity, self-efficacy, and communication. These are the skills that empower our students to thrive not only in school, but in life.

E-Bike Law Changes Effective October 1, 2025Starting next month, Connecticut will update how certain e-bikes are classified and regulated: - E-bikes with no pedals and motors over 750 watts but under 3,500 watts will now be defined as motor-driven cycles.
- A valid driver's license will be required to operate these e-bikes (Class 1-3 e-bikes still do not require a license).
- E-bikes with motors over 3,500 watts are expected to require registration and insurance, similar to motorcycles.
These changes aim to improve safety and accountability as high-powered bikes become more common, especially among young, unlicensed riders. Parents: If you wouldn't let your child drive a motorcycle, they shouldn't be on an e-bike that functions like one.

New Lightning Detection System InstalledThe Town of Trumbull has a Lightning Detection system installed in our major recreational areas in town. When the system detects lightning within 5 miles of the site, the system will sound a siren three times and strobes will flash continuously alerting people to clear the area. Once 30 minutes has passed with no lightning, two airhorns will sound letting people know it is safe to resume activity. Lightning detection covers our major recreational areas in town: - The Trumbull High School system covers Indian Ledge Park, Twin Brooks, Beach Memorial Pool, and Nothnagle Park.
- The Town Hall system covers Unity Park, Island Brook Park, Madison Middle School, and Kaechele Field.
- The Tashua Knolls system covers Tashua Knolls Golf Course, Tashua Pool, and Old Mine Park.

Statement from First Selectman Tesoro Regarding Zoning Regulations for Trumbull MallI want to thank the Trumbull Planning & Zoning Commission’s unanimous vote at last evening’s meeting in favor of the proposed zoning regulation changes recommended in the Trumbull Mall Area Market Feasibility and Land Use Study. The Trumbull Mall remains one of our town’s top taxpayers, and these changes will help to set the stage to both retain the mall’s current value and foster growth in this critical area. To attract the right kind of investment, our zoning must be aligned with the transformational vision for the Trumbull Mall area. This is a unique opportunity to create a vibrant destination where people can live, work, and play—a true mixed-use hub that enhances the quality of life for our residents and drives economic vitality. The potential for over one million square feet of infill development in this area is within our reach. This development could generate approximately $10 million in new revenue for Trumbull, a substantial contribution to our community’s fiscal health. However, realizing this potential required us to lay the proper groundwork through thoughtful, forward-looking zoning regulations. Last night’s approval by the P&Z Commission of the proposed zoning changes will allow movement toward a dynamic future for the Trumbull Mall area, one that benefits both our residents and our local economy. I want to thank the P&Z Commission for their consideration and dedication to Trumbull’s continued growth and prosperity.

Summer Reading 2025: Level Up at Your LibraryThe Trumbull Library had another wonderful Summer Reading program this year with over 850 kids and teens taking part. This summer the library offered many special programs as well as our regular weekly drop-in programs. We partnered with Trumbull Parks & Rec to create the weekly Rec & Read story time and worked with the Trumbull Police Department and Parks & Rec to host a Bike Safety program for kids by the BMX Track at Indian Ledge Park. In addition, we danced at the Baby Rave, played with the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society, designed Rube Goldberg machines, laughed with the Poop Museum, got creative with all kinds of arts and crafts, hula hooped, made delicious sweets, watched movies, and talked with author Alan Katz. There were oodles of fun prizes, and a few lucky winners went home with some truly amazing raffle prize packs. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!

Community Comes Together to Support Students for Back-to-SchoolThe Trumbull Human Services Department extends heartfelt thanks to the entire Trumbull community for coming together to ensure our students are ready for the upcoming school year. Through generous donations of supplies and gift cards, just over 50 families—including elementary, middle, and high school students—received the tools they need to start the year with confidence. This initiative was made possible thanks to the generosity of many community partners. A special thank you goes to the Members of the Trumbull Senior Center, Maefair Center for Health & Rehabilitation, Trumbull Parks & Recreation, the Trumbull Farmers Market, and Trumbull CT Democrats for their contributions. Bridges by EPOCH at Trumbull also added a special touch by sponsoring a beautiful wine basket raffle for those who donated directly to the Senior Center—congratulations to our winner, Francesca! Once again, we are reminded that when Trumbull comes together, great things happen. Thank you for helping our students start the school year strong!
