Trumbull Police arrested two (2) teenaged girls after they were located sitting inside of a stolen vehicle at the Westfield Trumbull Mall on Tuesday, December 27. A fourteen (14) year old girl and a fifteen (15) year old girl, both from Meriden, were each wearing ankle monitors when they were arrested for their involvement in this incident.

At approximately 12:00 PM, officers patrolling the area of the mall observed a blue Hyundai Sonata parked by itself in the JC Penney lot, near the Madison Avenue exit ramp, with the girls inside. Trumbull police learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen to the Cheshire police on December 25.

The Hyundai, occupied with the fourteen (14) year old girl sitting in the driver’s seat, and the fifteen (15) year old girl sitting in the passenger’s seat were taken into police custody without incident. Marijuana was also discovered inside of the vehicle. The fifteen (15) year old girl’s ankle monitor was issued to her as a house monitor, where the fourteen (14) year old girl’s ankle monitor was issued to track her due to her involvement in previous criminal activities. The fourteen (14) year old girl also had an active arrest warrant out of Meriden.

The girls were then transported to Trumbull Police Headquarters where they were both processed and charged with Larceny 2nd degree, and Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 2nd degree. The fifteen (15) year old was later released to the custody of her mother, and the fourteen (14) year old girl was turned over to the custody of the Meriden police. Both girls were released from Trumbull police custody on a Promise to Appear in Middletown Juvenile Court on December 28, 2022.
