On Monday evening, May 29, 2023, Trumbull Police arrested a teenager after he was observed running from the scene where a gun was fired inside of the Trumbull Mall after a dispute occurred. A fifteen (15) year old male from Bridgeport, was apprehended and arrested for his involvement in this incident.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., officers responded to the Trumbull Mall after receiving several 911 calls of a gunshot that took place near the arcade. Two of the involved suspects ran out of the mall as security chased after them into the parking lot, but eventually lost sight of them. A responding Trumbull officer located one of the suspects emerge from the tree line, walk up the exit ramp of Route 15, and run across Main Street before he was taken into police custody.

Officers learned that a large group of teens had gathered in the area of the arcade where a fight broke out involving multiple juveniles. As mall security responded to break up the fight and escort the group of juveniles off of mall property two individuals wearing "ski masks" then began arguing and fighting with security. As security attempted to escort the group out of the mall, the two individuals continued to taunt security when one suspect raised his shirt and brandished a handgun that was tucked in his waistband. The gun then fell onto the floor causing the bullet to discharge from the gun and strike a sign that was hanging from the ceiling. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

Connecticut State Police Troopers along with police K9’s and officers from the Bridgeport, Westport, and Monroe Police Departments all responded as mutual aid to assist in securing the scene and tracking down the suspects.

The fifteen (15) year old male was arrested and brought to the Trumbull Police Headquarters where he was processed and criminally charged with Breach of Peace and one count of Hazardous Use of a Highway by a Pedestrian. He was later released to the custody of his mother on a Promise to Appear in Bridgeport Juvenile Court on June 7, 2023.

This is an ongoing police investigation, and the handgun has not been recovered. If anyone has any information regarding this incident please the Trumbull Police Department directly at 203-261-3665.
