Indian Ledge Park
Final paving at Indian Ledge Park was completed this week. The sidewalks leading from the lower parking/playground area to the upper parking lots and fields are finished. The retaining wall at the lower parking area is installed. The parking areas will be striped 2-3 weeks after paving is complete to allow the blacktop to cure and accept the paint.
Please be aware that the parking area between the upper field and the Dog Park does not get paved with asphalt. Below the surface is an old organic landfill. The reason asphalt has failed there is due to decomposing organic material and it will continue for many more years, creating sinkholes that undermine the asphalt. The town will top dress the area annually with recycled millings from the paving program to fill in any depressions. This will save the town substantial money and provide for a solid parking area next to the field.
Twin Brooks Park
Completion of Twin Brooks Park is expected within the next two weeks, weather permitting. The park is closed until 2:30 PM each weekday to facilitate the movement of construction vehicles safely. The final paving layer will be done once the construction vehicles will no longer traverse the area. By the end of the month, the structural reconfiguration of the road, the new pathways, and the underground systems will be finished. The scope of the project will be completed. The park will be back to normal operational mode, with the normal park activities (i.e., landscaping, mowing, repairs) occurring as usual.
Old Mine Park Bridge on the Pequonnock Trail is well underway. It should be completed within two weeks, maximum. The decking is done, and railings are being installed sometime this week.
Tashua Pickleball and Tennis Courts
The new, lighted pickleball courts and tennis courts at Tashua Knolls are installed. Some landscaping work needs to be done and the courts should open around June 15th.
