8/12/23 Update: We are so proud of our Babe Ruth 14 Year Olds. Even though the tournament is over we are very proud of how they represented Trumbull. We congratulate them and thank them for giving all of us the opportunity to have fun watching all their great accomplishments!
Here is the last update from Coach Mike Buswell:
The magical Trumbull Babe Ruth 14 Year Old All Star run came to an end late last night (after midnight) as our club suffered an 11-7 loss to Eagle Pass, Texas in the Babe Ruth World Series Quarterfinal game.
Trumbull finished with an impressive 3-2 record against some of the best 14 year old teams in the country while outscoring their opponents 44-20.
Ryan DeMelo, Luke McDermott, and Brayden Jagoe all gave an outstanding effort on the mound while trying to help Trumbull advance to the semifinals.
Trumbull’s offense was lead by JJ Scavone who had two hits including a double, single, two RBI’s and a run scored. Brayden Jagoe who plated a double, had two walks, two RBI’s, and a run scored. Eric Story with a single, two walks, one RBI, and a run scored. Michael Roman who had a key hit and Luke McDermott who walked twice and scored three runs.
Brayden Jagoe earned the Ron Tellefsen Player Of The Game award for contributing on offensive with a double and two walks while also having an outstanding defensive game behind the plate, not just in this game, but throughout the entire tournament. Brayden also tossed a scoreless 7th inning on the mound.
Eagle Pass, Texas continued their tournament journey today with a 7-3 victory over Tallahassee, Florida in the World Series semifinal game. Eagle Pass has advanced to face Orcutt, California tomorrow at 2:00pm in the Babe Ruth World Series Championship game.
“We are so proud of our players and appreciative of the support that we received from their families. Also a special thank you to all of our Trumbull residents (past and current), our board members, and our TBR baseball fans for all of their support. Thank you to our favorite broadcaster Rob Adams for chronicling our run from the state tournament at Unity Park, Regionals in North Providence, and right through the World Series in Virginia. It was an amazing journey that these 12 boys from Trumbull will remember for the rest of their lives. They had the opportunity to play in a brand new minor league stadium, receive first class treatment from Babe Ruth National, play a team from the other side of the world in Australia, and battle some of the best teams in the United States. The players continuously raised the bar and pushed themselves to the limits in hopes of playing in the biggest tournament in the country for their age group. My hope for our program is that Trumbull families read this message and share it with their children so they can use this as motivation that this could be them someday. This was our 4th World Series appearance since 2011, we also lost two Regional title games, and a Regional semifinal game in this current 12 year span. Trumbull baseball is alive and well, we are on the National map, and we don’t intend on slowing down anytime soon. We will continue our quest to be the last team standing at the end of the summer and maybe it will happen someday.”~ Mike Buswell

“We lost in a hard fought battle against a very good Arlington, VA team. Both teams had their chances to win the game, give Arlington their credit, they did just a little bit more than we did. I told our guys there are a few very good teams with losses under their belt in pool play. We are in a fortunate position that we control our own destiny in pool play. We need to win tomorrow to advance to the championship round which features the top 8 teams in the country. Our boys are grinders, they play for each other, and love playing in big games. I am excited to watch them take the field tomorrow night against Arlington, Washington.” ~ Mike Buswell
