WHEREAS, On September 11th we commemorate the lives of those who died in the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Virginia, and those who perished when the hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, three hijacked planes were deliberately flown into the Pentagon in Washington DC and into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York, and a fourth crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, The loss of life and the damage caused by the largest act of terrorism ever on United States soil resulted in the loss of 3,000 lives and caused a devastating economic impact; and
WHEREAS, The attacks have greatly increased attention to national security in the United States and has had huge implications for national and international politics in the United States, straining relationships between the United States and Islamic countries in the Middle East; and
WHEREAS, in the aftermath of the attacks the people of the United States stood united in providing support for those in need and for those who responded to the call for service; and
WHEREAS, all residents are encouraged to take the time to reflect, honor, and carry on the legacy of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
NOW, THEREFORE I, Vicki Tesoro, by virtue of the authority vested in me as First Selectman of the Town of Trumbull, Connecticut do hereby proclaim September 11, 2023 as, Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance
