WHEREAS, the week of September 17th through September 23rd celebrates the United States Constitution; and
WHEREAS, the Constitution, America’s most important document, stands as a testament to the tenacity of Americans throughout history to maintain their liberties, freedoms, and inalienable rights; and
WHEREAS, Constitution Week commemorates the Constitution’s history and importance, and calls attention to how it still serves today; and
WHEREAS, this celebration was begun by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), which petitioned Congress in 1955 and the resolution was adopted by Congress and signed into law in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower; and
WHEREAS, the aims of Constitution Week are to emphasize citizens’ responsibilities for protecting and defending the Constitution, to inform people that the Constitution is the basis for America’s great heritage and the foundation for our way of life, and to encourage the study of historical events which led to the framing of the Constitution in September 1787; and
NOW THEREFORE I, Vicki A. Tesoro, by virtue of the authority vested in me as First Selectman of the Town of Trumbull, Connecticut do hereby proclaim the Week of September 17th through 23rd, 2023 as
CONSTITUTION WEEK
