The town wants to stress that public safety is our top priority, and we are always working to ensure that our roadways are as safe as they can be. Safe roadways help ensure a better community for us all, and the Town of Trumbull would like to work with the community and motorists to achieve this goal.
We urge you to drive with caution, watch for pedestrians, construction workers, other motorists, road hazards, and never drive distracted. Motorists are asked to stay alert and refrain from being distracted by their phone or other means; observe and obey the rules of the road especially when it comes to obeying the speed limit, stop signs, traffic signage, and be especially mindful near both school and construction zones. Whether you are a student, parent, resident, or just traveling through the Trumbull community, we would like to remind you of a few tips can help keep you and others safer.
Safety tips for drivers:
- Always remain alert. Watch for pedestrians, children, cyclists, and school busses.
- Obey all traffic rules, signs, and signals.
- Follow speed limits and be aware of school and constructions zones.
- Put away your cellphone, and other activities that distract your focus of the road.
- Keep an eye on children gathered at bus stops.
- Watch for crossing guards at crosswalks within school zones. Come to a complete stop while the crossing guard has their stop sign displayed and until all pedestrians have exited the crosswalk.
- Make sure you stop for all stopped school buses when their red lights are flashing and stop sign has been presented.
- Pass a bicyclist with caution as you would a slow-moving vehicle, and only when safe.
The rising prevalence of distracted driving has become a leading cause of preventable accidents. The Town of Trumbull urges drivers to recognize the dangers of distracted driving, including using mobile devices, eating, or any other activity that diverts attention from the road.
We would also like to make it known that this is Teen Driving Week, and according to AAA, 2022 was highest death rate in Connecticut of teen drivers since 2007. Parents should consider restricting passengers in their teen drivers’ vehicles, beyond the state law requirement. Let us all work together to keep our roadways and community a safe place for all.
We would like to remind the public that if you observe any road hazards, traffic violations, or other safety concerns to please contact the Trumbull Police at (203) 261-3665 or call 911 for all emergencies.
