With the assistance of Trumbull’s Partnership Against Under-Age Drinking (TPAUD), State officials, along with the Trumbull police, conducted surprise inspections at sixteen (16) local businesses, and found all businesses to comply regarding the sale of tobacco products to minors, but five (5) failed the alcohol checks, and one (1) was found to have numerous illegal products on display for sale.

In November 2023. the Trumbull Police Department and staff members of the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection - Liquor Control Division, and the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) conducted unannounced compliance inspections of establishments that sell alcohol and tobacco products. The inspections were performed to determine compliance with state laws concerning the prohibition of the sale of alcohol, cigarettes and/or tobacco products to youth under the age of twenty-one.

Under the direction and supervision of DMHAS and Liquor Control Division investigators, underage youth assisted in the alcohol checks by entering the establishments where they attempted to purchase alcohol and tobacco products.

Of the sixteen (16) unannounced compliance inspections, Trumbull Liquor Center, Ninety-Nine Bottles, TJ's Discount Wine and Liquors, G&G Liquors, and Wine and Hops all failed the alcohol compliance test, and the “Tobacco N Cigar” shop was found to have numerous illegal marijuana products for sale.

A Liquor Control agent took the enforcement action against each establishment for violating the alcohol sales. The Trumbull police took action against the owner of the “Tobacco N Cigar” shop where he was found to be in violation of the Connecticut General Statutes 12-304(a)(2) Possession of Unstamped Cigarettes, 21a-277(b)(1) Possession of a Controlled Substance and 21a-277(c) Operation of a Drug Factory.
