WHEREAS, The month of April is a time to raise public awareness and to help encourage Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors and also to celebrate those that have saved lives through the gift of donation; and
WHEREAS, More than 110,740 people are on the waiting list for an organ transplant while thousands more need tissue and corneal transplants each year; and
WHEREAS, About 30,000 people a year are diagnosed with blood diseases that may be cured by a marrow/blood stem cell transplant; and
WHEREAS, National Donate Life Month (NDLM) was instituted by Donate Life America and its partnering organizations and is dedicated to the purpose of public education and awareness for all Connecticut residents concerning the lifesaving benefits of organ and tissue donation and increasing the number of registered donors. Connecticut residents can sign up to donate by going online to www.organdonor.gov; and
WHEREAS, April 12, 2024 is National Donate Life Blue and Green Day. Everyone is encouraged to wear blue and green and to promote and share the donate life message; and
WHEREAS, We want to take this time to thank all who have donated and encourage others to donate and save a life.
NOW THEREFORE I, Vicki A. Tesoro, by virtue of the authority vested in me as First Selectman of the Town of Trumbull, Connecticut do hereby proclaim the Month of April 2024 as Donate Life Month
