WHEREAS, The American Heart Association announced in 2015 the establishment of Move More Month. Every April they aim to motivate all Americans to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle and take part in more physical activity; and
WHEREAS, Studies have shown that regular physical activity can improve cognitive function, helping to enhance thinking skills and memory. It can help improve the quality of sleep as well as mental health by reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety; and
WHEREAS, Each year, approximately 1.2 million Americans suffer a new and recurrent coronary attack. Cardiovascular disease is the nation’s leading cause of death; and
WHEREAS, Walking and moving more can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke, improve blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and blood lipid profile, help maintain a healthy body weight and lower the risk of obesity, enhance mental well-being, reduce the risk of osteoporosis, reduce the risk of breast and colon cancer as well as reduce the risk of non-insulin dependent (type 2) diabetes; and
WHEREAS, The American Heart Association Movement calls on all citizens of Trumbull to move more for at least 30 minutes a day during the month of April. By increasing awareness of the importance of physical activity to reduce the risk for cardiovascular disease, we can save thousands of lives each year.
NOW THEREFORE I, Vicki A. Tesoro, by virtue of the authority vested in me as First Selectman of the Town of Trumbull, Connecticut do hereby proclaim the month of April 2024 as Move More Month
