WHEREAS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a devastating neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, leading to progressive muscle weakness, paralysis, and ultimately, loss of life; and
WHEREAS, ALS Awareness Month provides an opportunity to raise awareness, promote understanding, and advocate for research, treatment, and support services for individuals living with ALS, their families, and caregivers; and
WHEREAS, ALS Awareness Month honors the courage, resilience, and determination of individuals living with ALS, who face daily challenges with grace, dignity, and unwavering strength, and who inspire us all with their bravery and optimism in the face of adversity; and
WHEREAS, ALS Awareness Month recognizes the tireless efforts of healthcare professionals, researchers, advocates, and organizations dedicated to advancing ALS research, improving care and support services, and advocating for policies that enhance the quality of life and well-being of individuals affected by ALS; and
WHEREAS, ALS Awareness Month honors the memory of those who have lost their lives to ALS, remembering their strength, courage, and legacy, and reaffirming our commitment to continue the fight until a cure is found;
NOW THEREFORE I, Vicki A. Tesoro, by virtue of the authority vested in me as First Selectman of the Town of Trumbull, Connecticut do hereby proclaim May 2024 as ALS Awareness Month.
