Trumbull Police arrested three (3) juvenile males after they fled police in a stolen car, they were using to steal from parked vehicles in residential driveways during the early morning hours of Saturday, June 22. One seventeen (17) and two (2) fifteen (15) year olds, all from Bridgeport, were arrested and charged for their involvement in this crime spree.
Shortly after 6:00 AM, Trumbull officers received multiple calls of juveniles, that were wearing masks, and driving a Blue Mazda CX-5 to break into vehicles in neighborhoods in the upper Main Street area. Officers quickly located the vehicle on Tanglewood Road, where the Mazda drove off the roadway to elude and flee from police. At one point, the driver of the suspect vehicle made an evasive maneuver over the double yellow line and struck a responding police vehicle as it continued its escape. No injuries were reported from the impact.
The Mazda eventually struck a fire hydrant on Jamestown Road, causing the vehicle to stop, and the seventeen (17) year old passenger ran from the vehicle but was eventually chased down by police. The Mazda then continued to drive away from officers traveling Southerly on Main Street where it eventually became disabled on Birdsall Avenue. The fifteen (15) year old driver exited and ran from police but was quickly apprehended nearby. The remaining fifteen (15) year old juvenile stayed inside of the Mazda where he was taken into custody by police. He was found to have a knife in his possession which was later confirmed to have been stolen from one of the vehicles they entered nearby. Various other items were also recovered that had been stolen from numerous other vehicles. The Blue 2023 Mazda was later confirmed to have been reported stolen to the Bridgeport police.
The teens were then transported to Trumbull Police Headquarters, where they were processed, and each issued a Juvenile Summons. The two passengers were each charged with Burglary 3rd Degree (2 Counts), Criminal Attempt Burglary 3rd Degree, Conspiracy Burglary 3rd Degree, and Larceny First Degree. The fifteen (15) year old driver was charged with Engaging Police in Pursuit, Interfering with Police, Reckless Driving, Evading Responsibility, Operation without a license, Burglary 3rd Degree (2 Counts), Criminal Attempt Burglary 3rd Degree, Conspiracy Burglary 3rd Degree, and Larceny First Degree. They were later released to the custody of their mothers on a Promise to Appear in Bridgeport Juvenile Court on June 24, 2024.
With the continuous trend of numerous vehicle breaks-ins and cars being stolen during overnight hours, police had focused and combined their efforts following a drastic increase of these thefts during the past week leading to the apprehension of this group of suspects. Once again, through the combined efforts of observant citizens and the police, more criminals have been apprehended and charged.
The Trumbull Police would also like to remind all residents of the continued thefts from unlocked motor vehicles, stolen vehicle complaints where keys are left inside, and stress the importance to ALWAYS LOCK YOUR VEHICLES, remove all packages and valuables, and never leave their keys inside.
