[ARCHIVED] Trumbull Little League 10U All Stars defeated South Windsor 6-3 to win the Connecticut Little League

Trumbull Little League 10U All Stars defeated South Windsor 6-3 to win the Connecticut Little League State Championship this afternoon in Simsbury! 

Trumbull opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Bryce Buswell walked, advanced to second on a pass ball, and scored on a  Sonny Nankervis single to give Trumbull a quick 1-0 lead. 

South Windsor came right back in the top of the second and manufactured a run to knot the score at 1-1. 

Trumbull took control of the game for good in the bottom of the third inning. Jack Gerbert lead the inning off with a single. Beckett Urda and Bryce Buswell both immediately followed with back to back base hits to load the bases for Blaise DiMartino. Blaise launched a three run double to the left center wall giving Trumbull a 4-1 lead. Chase Dolyak immediately followed with a base hit to right field to extend the lead to 5-1. 

Sonny Nankervis started the game for Trumbull and calmly fired a dominant complete game performance to lead Trumbull to victory. Aside from a few infield singles and a couple of errors, South Windsor mustered very little off him. Sonny surrendered only four hits and three runs over six innings, striking out two and walking two. 

Bryce Buswell lead the offensive attack with two hits, a walk, two runs scored. Beckett Urda, Sonny Nankervis, Chase Dolyak, Chandler Penalba, and Jack Gerbert all delivered hits for Trumbull. The biggest hit in the game was Blaise DiMartino’s blast that broke the game open. Blaise finished with a double, three RBI’s, and a run scored. 

As the Connecticut State Champions, Trumbull has advanced to the New England Little League Regional tournament starting August 3rd in Cranston, Rhode Island. Trumbull will open up pool play on August 4th when they face off with Braintree, Massachusetts. Trumbull will participate in a pool play format against State Champions from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.



Trumbull 10U District All-Stars claimed triumphant victories over Darien All-Stars on Tuesday, July 16th (4-1) and again on Thursday, July 18, 2024 (5-1) to capture the Sectional 1 Championship. 
 
 After losing to the Milford All-Stars on Sunday, July 14th, by a score of 7-4, the Trumbull All-Stars had to face an uphill battle to secure their Section 1 Championship. On Tuesday night, Trumbull started the game trailing Darien 1-0. However, the Trumbull 10U All-Stars showed great determination and resilience. They managed to take the lead for good in the top of the third inning after Jack Gerbert singled, scoring Chandler Penalba (who also singled) to tie the score at 1-1. After Bryce Buswell's walk, Sonny Nankervis singled, scoring Gerbert and putting Trumbull up 2-1. This display of determination and teamwork was a crucial moment in the game.
 
 Sonny Nankervis earned the win for the Trumbull 10U All-Stars. The right-handed pitcher surrendered six hits and one run over five innings, striking out three and walking one. Luke Carusone pitched a scoreless inning in relief. He surrendered three hits, striking out one and walking none to earn the save.
 
 Trumbull 10U All-Stars tallied 11 hits in the game. Bryce Buswell (double, single, and a walk) and Connor Anderson (two singles and a walk) collected two hits leading to the Trumbull offensive attack. Beckett Urda, Sonny Nankervis, Blaise DiMartino, Maddox Kopchik (double), Luke Locasto, Chandler Penalba, and Jack Gerbert all chipped in with hits.
 
 The Trumbull 10U All-Stars headed into Thursday night's Championship as a team of young athletes with a shared passion for the game. The team got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Beckett Urda, a key player, singled to open the game and scored on a Bryce Buswell triple. Bryce Buswell, another standout, later scored on a Sonny Nankervis sacrifice fly to give Trumbull an early 2-0 lead after one inning of play.
 
 In the second inning, the Trumbull 10U All-Stars scored two runs to increase their lead to 4-0. Maddox Kopchik started the inning with a double, and Connor Anderson reached base on an error. After Anderson stole a base, Dustin Galemba hit a double on the sixth pitch of the at-bat, setting the stage for Trumbull.
 
 Luke Carusone led Trumbull to victory with a complete game, pitching six innings. He allowed only four hits and one unearned run while recording six strikeouts and, crucially, not issuing a single walk.
 
 Bryce Buswell had a triple, a single, an RBI, and scored a run, while Dustin Galemba hit a two-run double to lead the offense for Trumbull. Beckett Urda, Chase Dolyak with a double, Maddox Kopchik with a double, and Sonny Nankervis with a sacrifice fly all contributed to Trumbull's offense. Connor Anderson and Luke Locasto also scored runs.
 
 Trumbull's defensive performance on the field was excellent, making terrific plays throughout the night. Notably, Beckett Urda delivered many plays in center field, and Maddox Kopchik and Sonny Nankervis converting a crucial double play in the final inning.
 
 Trumbull has advanced to the four-team double-elimination State Tournament next week. The team will open on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against Section 2 Champion Simsbury at Roche Field in Orange. Section 3 Champion Middletown will face Section 8 Champion South Windsor at 5:00 p.m.
