8/4/24 (10:00 AM) As many residents are aware a storm front passed over Trumbull Saturday early evening leaving a wake of damage throughout town, leaving many residents without power and streets littered with trees and wires. UI, the Department of Public Works, Police, and the Office of Emergency Management have been working around the clock to make roads safe, clear, and ready for power restoration.
Over 75 percent of residents have had their power restored. Power restoration can take time, especially when poles have been snapped and new ones have to be set. UI and the Town of Trumbull are doing everything possible to restore all power as quickly as possible to the remaining residents affected by Saturday's storm. Details on storm cleanup efforts will be announced later today. Please be aware of low-hanging wires and weakened tree limbs that may continue to fall.
8/4/24 (4:00 PM) UI and the Department of Public Works continue to work to clear roads of down trees and wires. Almost 1500 residents have had their power restored. Whitney Avenue at Porter’s Hill Road remains closed due to the catastrophic damage the area suffered. A detour has been established via Irongate Road. We urge all drivers to use caution in the area of the detour as there is extensive tree damage. Residents are asked to use alternate routes as much as possible to avoid the Whitney Avenue area. Residents are encouraged to check the UI website at UINET.com for updated restoration times. Out-of-state line crews continue to come into town to work on restoring power to our residents. As a reminder please stay away from down wires as they might be live and operate generators in a well-ventilated outdoor area. The fire department has responded to several calls for Carbon Monoxide from generators not being operated in a properly ventilated area. Remember Carbon Monoxide is an odorless gas that can kill. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions when operating generators.
8/4/24 (1:15 PM) On Monday August 5, 2024, Tashua Knolls Park and Pool will have a delayed opening when the storm cleanup is finalized. Please check back for a mid-day update when we will be better able to provide a timeline.
8/4/24 (8:15 AM) As of 8:15 this morning, 3666 residents remain without power. UI continued to work throughout the night. Additional UI crews are arriving in town this morning to work on restoration. We do not have a time for complete restoration. Numerous roads are still closed, highway workers are working diligently to clear roads of debris and make them passable. It is extremely important if you are using a generator in your home, please make sure it is operating in an open air environment and not in a garage or an enclosed space. Please consider all wires that are down to be live and do not touch them. Please remind children to stay away from down wires as well.
8/3/24 (9:00 PM) As a result of today's storm, Indian Ledge Park, all facilities at Tashua Knolls including the pool, tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts, the golf courses & all practice facilities will be closed Sunday, August 4, 2024 in order for crews to clean up the debris. Stay tuned and check the Town website at www.trumbull-ct.gov for updates regarding conditions for Monday.
8/3/24 (8:15 PM) At approximately 4:45 PM this afternoon a strong storm front passed over North Trumbull affecting areas of Tashua, Daniels Farm area, and a small area of Nichols. At this time there are over 4,000 people without power. The Town of Trumbull is working closely with United Illuminating (UI) to evaluate the totality of wires down and prepare for restoration. At this time there is no estimated restoration time. We ask all residents to stay away from wires that are down as they may still be live. Residents should call UI to report power outages at 800-722-5584. Multiple roads throughout town are closed. Highway workers are working diligently to reopen roads. We ask residents to remain vigilant and patient while we work to restore power and open roads.
