On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, the Trumbull Police Department was made aware of several fraudulent telephone calls that were made to residents by suspect(s) that were using the names of real officers in attempts to scam the citizens out of money. Some of these fraudulent calls were made by scammers who claimed to be members of the Trumbull “Sheriff’s” Department.
Law Enforcement does not request money, gift cards, or anything to render payment for fines, or to prevent someone from being arrested. Law Enforcement does not threaten to arrest people, or increase any fines, if money is not paid. Also, there is no Trumbull SHERIFF’S Department in Connecticut.
If you received any suspicious calls, texts, emails, or any other form of communication try to obtain a title, name, telephone number, address, or any other detailed information from the caller/sender that could possibly be followed up on. DO NOT make any payments or provide any personal information to anyone that you do not know or who reached out to initiate contact with you. After contact is made with you call the police to question the validity of the request, or to report the fraudulent activity.
We encourage the public to remain vigilant and notify law enforcement to report any illegal or suspicious activity. To contact the Trumbull Police please call (203) 261-3665 or call 911 for all emergencies.
