Good Evening,
This is First Selectman Vicki Tesoro.
I want to update the community about the attention Tashua Elementary School is receiving because of a social media post made by a Tashua School teacher last week. The Trumbull School district is aware that the social media post has been seen by many which includes the address and phone number of Tashua Elementary School. Over the weekend, no threats were received to the school. Nevertheless, there was a police presence today at Tashua given the spread of the social media post. Much of the school day was quiet.
At around 2:45 this afternoon, a threatening email was received reporting a bomb had been placed on the school grounds. The threat was immediately reported to the police and the school went into a stay put mode. Trumbull Police promptly arrived at the school to search the interior and exterior grounds of the building. After all areas had been inspected this was determined to be a non-credible threat and the school proceeded with dismissal.
Chief Michael Lombardo has assured the Tashua community that there will be a continued police presence at Tashua School. In addition, there will be an increased number of security guards on the Tashua campus.
I can't comment any further on school personnel issues.
Please be assured that the town, the Trumbull Police Department, and our schools' superintendent will continue to work together to ensure the safety of our students and staff.
