March 6, 2025 – The Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) informed Town of Trumbull officials on Wednesday, March 5, about a water issue at the Genesis St. Joseph's Center, located at 6448 Main Street in Trumbull. In response, town officials, working closely with the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health, made the decision to activate the Long-Term Care Emergency Plan and evacuate patients to skilled nursing facilities across the state.

At approximately 11:00 p.m., the Connecticut Department of Public Health, the State of Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Trumbull EMS, Trumbull Emergency Management, Trumbull Fire, and Trumbull Police, alongside over two dozen EMS agencies and wheelchair livery services from around the state, began the process of evacuating and transporting approximately 187 patients to various skilled nursing facilities.

As of 7:45 a.m. on March 6, 66 patients had been safely transported by ambulance services to 23 different skilled nursing facilities. In addition to those transported by EMS agencies, numerous other patients have been moved using wheelchair vans and livery services.

At 8:30 a.m., approximately 50 additional patients were in the process of being transported to facilities across the state. At this time, officials do not have a specific timeline for when the water issue at Genesis St. Joseph's Center will be resolved or when residents will be able to return to the facility. It is expected that operations will continue throughout much of the day.

Officials assure the public that all residents are safe, comfortable, and being well cared for during this process. Families wishing to check on the status of their loved ones can contact Genesis St. Joseph's Center directly at 203-268-6204.

The Town of Trumbull and state agencies continue to work together to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents affected by this situation.

The State of CT Department of Public Health is the regulatory authority regarding nursing homes. Trumbull will continue to work with the state agencies in this situation.
