The Trumbull Rotary Carnival that was being held at Hillcrest Middle School on Daniels Farm Road was disrupted later Saturday evening when several hundred teenagers drew a large police response to restore order.
Shortly before the 9:00 p.m. closing time, employees at the event complained about the large groups of teens who were being disruptive toward patrons and threatening the carnival staff. Officers who were assigned for security at the event attempted to break up the large groups and calm the situation but were unsuccessful.
Two teenaged girls were restrained by officers as they were actively fighting near other patrons, and a large crowd gathered to intimidate the few officers who responded. A large group formed and began taunting the officers and throwing objects at them. Several other fights broke out.
As the incident escalated beyond the control of the few officers, all other on-duty Trumbull officers were dispatched along with additional assistance from several neighboring police departments. More than an hour later, order was restored and most of the crowd was dispersed from the school grounds.
The two teen girls involved in the original fight, a 14-year-old from Milford and a 15-year-old from Bridgeport, were both charged with Breach of Peace and later released to a guardian. No guests or officers were injured during this incident.
