[ARCHIVED] Proclamation: June 6, 2025 is National Gun Violence Awareness Day

Town of Trumbull Seal

WHEREAS, National Gun Violence Prevention Day, observed on the first Friday in June, is a time to honor the lives of those lost to gun violence, support survivors, and raise awareness of evidence-based solutions to reduce firearm-related injuries and deaths; and

WHEREAS, every day, more than 120 Americans are killed by gun violence, and many more are wounded, leaving families and communities across the country to bear the burden of grief, trauma, and loss; and

WHEREAS, protecting public safety is one of the highest responsibilities of local and national government, and addressing gun violence requires the attention, commitment, and collaboration of all areas of society; and

WHEREAS, people across the nation wear orange on this day—a color chosen because it symbolizes the value of human life—to show support for gun violence prevention efforts and to stand with those affected by this public health crisis; and

WHEREAS, we reaffirm our commitment to ending senseless acts of gun violence through education, community engagement, common-sense policy, and support for those working to build a safer, more peaceful future; and

WHEREAS, today we spend this day honoring and remembering all victims and survivors of gun violence and renew our commitment to reduce gun violence nationwide and encourage responsible gun ownership.

NOW THEREFORE I, Vicki A. Tesoro, by virtue of the authority vested in me as First Selectman of the Town of Trumbull, Connecticut do hereby proclaim June 6, 2025 as National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Town of Trumbull to be affixed on the 6th day of June, 2025.

Vicki A. Tesoro
First Selectman
