July 11, 2025: Last evening, at the July 10th Town Council meeting, Council members voted in bipartisan fashion to bring the question of a new Senior/Community Center to Trumbull voters this November. This long-overdue step forward will finally give our residents the opportunity to decide whether to invest in a modern, inclusive facility that meets the needs of today’s seniors and the broader community.
The conceptual plan approved by the Town Council last evening reflects a compromise. While this version, known as Option 7, includes an estimated $4 million in savings over 20 years, it also reduces a portion of the recreational space that was originally proposed, thoroughly vetted, and unanimously supported by the Community Facilities Building Committee, the Board of Finance, and the Democratic members of the Town Council. While this reduction represents some cost savings it will limit certain recreation programming that had been envisioned for our seniors and community members.
Democrats on the Town Council, while strongly supporting the original conceptual plan, chose to compromise in the name of progress. Their willingness to do so helped ensure that this important project could move forward and be brought to the people for a referendum vote this November. If approved by the voters, this project will be a significant improvement compared to our current facility. That is the essence of leadership and good governance.
In the coming months, the town will provide more information about Option 7, including a community meeting this fall to share details and answer questions. I encourage all residents to learn about the proposal so they can make an informed decision in November.
I want to thank the members of the Community Facilities Building Committee and our architects for their tireless efforts and commitment over the past several years. Your dedication has brought us to this critical milestone.
