WHEREAS, suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States, touching the lives of countless families, friends, and communities, and leaving behind a lasting impact on those who grieve; and
WHEREAS, National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, observed each September, is an opportunity to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote understanding of mental health challenges while reminding all individuals that support and resources are available; and
WHEREAS, prevention begins with education, open conversation, and connection, and it is vital that we foster a community where people feel safe to seek help without fear or shame; and
WHEREAS, organizations, advocates, health care providers, schools, faith communities, and families across the nation are working together to expand access to mental health services, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention resources; and
WHEREAS, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and other local and national programs provide immediate, life-saving support to those in need, ensuring that no one has to face their darkest moments alone; and
WHEREAS, together as a community, we can encourage hope and resilience, empower individuals with knowledge, and remind every person that help is available and healing is possible. I call upon all residents to join in raising awareness, supporting survivors, extending compassion to those in need, and working toward a future free of suicide.
NOW THEREFORE I, Vicki A. Tesoro, by virtue of the authority vested in me as First Selectman of the Town of Trumbull, Connecticut do hereby proclaim September 2025 as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
