[ARCHIVED] 04/02/2020: COVID-19 Update

Good Afternoon,

This is First Selectman Vicki Tesoro with an important COVID-19 update.

We currently have a total of 21 laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Trumbull, and we will continue to update this number on the town’s website. The majority of our cases in Trumbull are people under 50 years old. We should expect more cases in the days ahead, just as other towns in Fairfield County are experiencing. As of yesterday, there are 3,557 confirmed cases in Connecticut with 85 deaths. The next month is critical for all of us.

Residents should be self-isolating and social distancing everywhere. Grocery stores and certain business remain open to ensure that food and other essentials are available to the public. All other activities where people may congregate in groups must be avoided. I understand how difficult this is for the residents of our community, it is for me as well to make these very difficult decisions. Please Stay Home.

I want to make a special plea to our parents with teenagers. I’m receiving many reports of our children gathering in different locations of the town, many of which have been closed to the public. Please talk with your children, I’m sure many of you already have, about the importance of staying home and not gathering with members outside of your household.

The Governor continues to issue daily orders. All of these orders are posted on the town’s website. The Governor announced on Tuesday mortgage payment relief with over 50 credit unions and banks to help residents and businesses impacted by COVID-19. Please contact your lender. Participating financial institutions are offering mortgage payment relief for up to 90 days

Last evening, the Governor released an order focusing on municipal tax relief. We are reviewing that order now and we will provide more information to the community later today. Also, in yesterday’s order is information on safe stores mandatory state-wide rules, which will go into effect tomorrow. I will also provide more information on this order later today.

Please check the town’s website as often as possible as there are continual updates posted daily for both residents and businesses.

Please check on your neighbors, especially your elderly neighbors. Leave them a note or call them.

If you or anyone you know is struggling to purchase food or can’t get to the store please contact Social Services at 203-452-5136 for this and other services and assistance.

Please sign up for the Trumbull Alert System on the town website and remind your family, friends, and neighbors to do the same. If you or they are not receiving all of the critical updates and information from the town, it is most likely because you or they are not registered to do so.

I will do another robocall either later this afternoon or tomorrow with more important information.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of our residents during this very difficult time. We will get through this together.

Please stay home as much as possible, stay informed, and stay safe.

Thank you for listening.
