[ARCHIVED] 04/18/2020 COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 (JPG)

Good Evening,

This is First Selectman Vicki Tesoro with an important COVID-19 update:

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Trumbull has now increased to 199. There are 15 Trumbull residents who have passed away. Connecticut now has 17,550 confirmed cases and 1,086 deaths. The latest data from the Connecticut Department of Health shows that the peak in Connecticut will occur between April 27 and May 10. As always our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is suffering.

I continue to urge our residents to follow social distancing guidelines and do your part to keep your family and others safe. All activities where people may congregate in groups must be avoided. I understand how difficult this is and I want to thank all those who are cooperating with the restrictions and closures.

Yesterday, Governor Lamont released an Order requiring the use of cloth face coverings or face masks in public wherever close contact is unavoidable. This order goes into effect at 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 20th. Any person in a public place, including grocery stores and pharmacies, who is unable to or does not maintain a safe social distance of approximately 6 feet from every other person must cover their mouth and nose with a mask or cloth face covering.  There are some exceptions to this order that include people with health issues and young children. More information can be found on the Town website.

In addition, the Town of Trumbull is requiring all food establishment employees who handle and prepare foods to use a face mask or covering beginning Monday, April 20th. Information on how to make cloth face coverings can be found on the CDC website under Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Governor Lamont also announced yesterday that Connecticut has formed a partnership with CVS Health that will make free, rapid COVID-19 tests available to eligible Connecticut residents. The first rapid testing site opened yesterday at the former Gateway Community College campus in New Haven. Please see the Town website for more information.

If you or anyone you know is struggling to purchase food or can’t get to the store please contact Social Services at 203-452-5136, for this and other services and assistance.

Donations of food and monetary contributions are needed at the Food Pantry. Please visit the Town website or call 203-452-5136 for more information on how you can donate.

Our next virtual Town Hall meeting will be on Thursday, April 23 at 3 PM. More information will be available soon.

I will be making another call to the community tomorrow evening.

Please stay safe, stay well, and stay home.

Thank you for listening.
