[ARCHIVED] Stern Village Road Improvements Underway

August 9, 2019 -- The road through the Stern Village Housing Complex will soon be safer.  First Selectman Vicki Tesoro, together with the Board of Finance and Town Council, supported the repaving of Hedgehog Circle and the main loop that circulates through the housing complex.  Harvest Hill Road in that same general area is also being paved.

“These areas leading into Stern Village are the responsibility of the town under a long time maintenance agreement and were badly in need of repair for a number of years.  I am pleased that work is finally underway to improve these conditions for elderly and disabled residents, their visitors and others traveling in the vicinity,” stated Tesoro.

The town estimates the paving should be complete by mid-August, depending on weather conditions.  The ground has been graded and a binder coat of pavement has already been applied.  Once new curbs are installed, the final process of applying the finish coat will occur.

These road improvements complement other upgrades to Stern Village that are already underway.  The Town of Trumbull, with the support of the State Legislative Delegation, helped Stern Village apply for and secure $1,600,000 in HUD Small Cities Community Development Block Grant funds through the Connecticut Department of Housing to install new heat pumps and windows in the village-style units. Those projects are nearing completion.   A 2019 Small Cities grant of approximately $1,200,000 is pending to make similar improvements to the congregate building of apartment-style units.  For more information on the paving project, contact John Marsilio - Director of Public Works at (203) 452-5045.
