This is First Selectman Vicki Tesoro with an important update.
As of today we have 535 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Trumbull. 102 of our Trumbull residents have passed away. 84 of those who have died resided in our extended care facilities. 352 of the people who tested positive are either recovered or recovering, and 81 were not reachable through our contact tracing process.
We continue to share our sympathies with all families that are suffering.
To our graduating senior class and your families. I understand and share your sorrow and disappointment regarding this very trying situation that has marred your senior year.
Please know, that the entire Trumbull community is proud of your accomplishments and knows that the very best lies ahead of you.
The First Selectman usually plays no role in the planning and execution of the graduation ceremony. That is the sole province of the Board of Education and the school administration. We all want you to have an event that properly celebrates this important milestone. This week I met with school officials and I’m encouraged that they are working hard to create a memorable experience for the students and their families.
This graduation ceremony will honor the accomplishments of all of our seniors. You will receive a communication next week that details the plans for this ceremony.
We ask for your patience as we work through the logistics. Please know, we will make sure that the hard work of the students is recognized and honored.
I have received many questions regarding summer programs, including camps, youth sports, adult leagues, and pools. At this time we do not have a decision as to which programs will happen. Our Parks and Recreation Department is working diligently to determine if they will be able to offer summer programs as they must follow very stringent regulations from the CDC, State of Connecticut and the Office of Early Childhood.
Tomorrow, May 30th three more parks will open with restrictions. First, the tennis courts at Nothnagle will open for singles play only. Second, Abraham Nichols Park will open. The Community Gardens at Abraham Nichols will reopen to those who have reserved a garden plot. Finally, Indian Ledge Park will reopen for trail access only. Athletic fields, the Barn, and the BMX track will remain closed until further notice. To help ensure safe social distancing, a limited number of vehicles will be allowed within Indian Ledge at any given time.
