Good Afternoon,
This is First Selectman Vicki Tesoro with an important update.
In accordance with the ReOpen Connecticut Guidelines many of our recreational summer offerings will resume in July.
On July 6th both Tashua Knolls and Beach Memorial Pools will reopen, with restrictions. Due to guidelines from the State of Connecticut, capacity at both pools will be reduced. The playground, sprinkler lot, and volleyball court at Beach Memorial Park will remain closed until further notice due to social distancing issues when Beach pool reopens. More information about the town pools reopening will be posted on the town website soon.
The sprinkler lot at Indian Ledge Park, all the outdoor basketball courts in Town, and the Unity volleyball courts will open on July 6th.
Beginning on Monday, June 22nd we will reopen the playgrounds in most of our parks and at the public schools. This reopening will be complete by the end of next week.
Our Parks and Recreation Department will also be offering a modified Camp program this summer on the THS campus. Registration for this program will begin next week on the town website.
Park and Recreation staff are also working on finalizing details for their Movie in the Park events and our Summer Concert Series. More information will be available soon.
Most of our athletic fields at the schools and at Indian Ledge are now open. Some of our fields require a permit in order to use them. A list of all fields and their status is available on the Parks and Recreation website: https://www.trumbull-ct.gov/819/Parks
The Trumbull Day Commission is disappointed to announce that the 2020 Trumbull Day Carnival and Food Truck Festival is cancelled. The governor’s latest guidance states that outdoor gatherings are allowable at 100 people and re-opening guidance states that outdoor events must follow executive orders. Many of the summer fairs and festivals around the state have also been cancelled.
Our fireworks display scheduled for July 3rd is postponed to a later date in the summer or early fall. Many of our neighboring towns including Westport, Wilton, Fairfield, Greenwich, Milford, Norwalk, New Canaan, Bridgeport, Stratford, and many others have cancelled their fireworks for 2020. By later in the summer or early fall, the governor’s guidance will remove the 500 person cap that will be in effect on July 3rd with regard to the number of attendees at fireworks displays. We are postponing until a later date when there will be no cap, allowing many more residents to attend and enjoy the fireworks display.
Trumbull Town Hall will reopen on Wednesday, July 1st on a staggered basis for employees and by appointment only for the public until further notice. Information on how to schedule an appointment will be posted on the Town website soon. People visiting the Tax Collector’s office and the Town Clerk’s office will not need an appointment but visits will be subject to social distancing guidelines.
The Trumbull Senior Center will remain closed until September 1st. This is in consideration of the wellbeing of the vulnerable and high risk population being served. In August the reopening will re-assessed. Senior Centers in Darien, Westport, Fairfield, and Stratford are all using this timeline. In the meantime, the senior center is offering exercise, art, and educational programs online. Please Call (203) 452-5199 for a calendar of events or visit the town website.
The library on Quality Street will offer curbside pickup service beginning June 22nd, Monday through Friday from 1 PM to 6 PM for Trumbull residents only. This service will provide the public with needed access to the physical collections. You can find out more details by going to https://www.trumbull-ct.gov/855/5271/Curbside-Pickup-Service.
The rate of new positive COVID-19 cases over the past week in Trumbull continues to decrease. There were no new cases or deaths today and we have no residents hospitalized due to the virus. This is very good news.
Trumbull has 541 residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 and a total of 114 of our residents have passed away. 360 of those who tested positive have recovered or are recovering. 93 of the people who died were residents of our long term care facilities. Please keep all of these families in your thoughts and prayers.
In accordance with the CDC guidelines and the Governor’s executive orders all residents should continue to wear face coverings especially when in grocery stores and other public locations. This does not apply to anyone for whom doing so would be contrary to their health because of a medical condition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPx1yqvJgf4
I want to wish all of our dads a Happy Father’s Day. I would like to encourage everyone celebrating graduations and Father’s Day this weekend, to consider shopping local at our florist, gift shops, stores, and our restaurants. Let’s support our local businesses.
Stay safe and stay well.
Thanks for listening!
