3/28/2019 - First Selectman's Statement on Moorefield Farm Property
FIRST SELECTMAN’S STATEMENT ON MOOREFIELD FARM PROPERTY
March 28, 2019 - People are free to sell their property and developers have a right to purchase property. The First Selectman’s office has no authority over either the purchase or sale of private property. In addition, property owners have a right under Connecticut law to propose a development through the Town’s application process. This process is established and governed by State law.
There are regulations/laws that apply to all developments. The ultimate decision to make a zoning change rests with our elected Commissioners on the Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission.
It is my opinion that the applicant for this proposed text amendment to our existing zoning regulations should work within the existing regulations. This text amendment is being applied to an exclusively residential area and could have negative consequences for established neighborhoods like Nichols and other areas of town.
I urge the P&Z members to exercise care in making any changes to established residential neighborhoods in town. Preservation of the quality and character of our community is of paramount concern, and this proposal is no exception in that regard.
Questions, comments and concerns regarding this proposed text amendment and all proposed zone changes should be directed to the P&Z Commission through the town’s Land Use Planner at rlibrandi@trumbull-ct.gov.
We have prepared a document to help residents understand the development process.
