March 28, 2018 Town Event Highlights Dramatic Story of Hope, Launches Community Wellness Task Force

“An Evening with Andrew McKenna: A Discussion of the Consequences of Untreated Depression and Anxiety and the Perils of Prescription Drug Abuse and Addiction”, March 28th at 7p.m., Madison Middle School Auditorium.

Andrew McKenna knows firsthand about life’s highs and lows. He served as a U.S. Marine, JAG Attorney, and Justice Department Prosecutor, before untreated depression and anxiety led him to opioid addiction. When he turned to crime to feed his addiction, he ultimately served time in federal prison. Through perseverance, persistence, and an openness to help, McKenna emerged as an engaging, positive voice who helps motivate others to overcome the adversity in their own lives.

On March 28th at 7p.m. in the auditorium at Madison Middle School, Andrew McKenna will be the keynote speaker for the first community education event hosted by the First Selectman’s Task Force on Health and Wellness. This group of local partners, convened by First Selectman Vicki Tesoro, will work to promote individual, family, and community health and wellness, by facilitating community collaboration, identifying local resources and supports, and providing learning opportunities.

“Andrew McKenna is an example that anyone can struggle with anxiety, depression, and addiction, but there is hope for those who seek help. We want this event to start the conversation about the assistance and resources that are available in our community. No one needs to suffer alone,” states Tesoro. Tesoro also thanks Progressive Diagnostics, a Trumbull business, for the financial support that has made this event possible.

“An Evening with Andrew McKenna: A Discussion of the Consequences of Untreated Depression and Anxiety and the Perils of Prescription Drug Abuse and Addiction” is open to all community members, and will include a Healthy Trumbull Resource Fair of community partners committed to wellness education and support.
