[ARCHIVED] Last Call: Trumbull Social Services Fig Tree Fundraiser

Senior Center at Priscilla Place

DON'T MISS OUT - 50 mature, fruit-bearing potted fig trees grown by former First Selectman Ken Halaby and his family, are available for purchase. All proceeds will be donated to Trumbull Social Services.

The Halaby Family Fig Farm began in August of 1982 from a branch taken from Ken Halaby’s father-in-law’s beloved fig tree in Richmond, Virginia. Ken broke off a small branch with the intention of taking it back to Trumbull where he hoped to root it and plant it in his father-in-law’s memory.  Little did Ken realize that 40 years later a small branch was the beginning of perhaps the largest portable, potted fig farm in the State of Connecticut--their most recent count being 120 fig trees!

Over the years, the Halaby’s estimate that by gifting fig plants to many friends and relatives across the country, their Connecticut fig patch has expanded to, among other States, the Carolinas, California, Florida, New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania.

The Halaby’s now hope that you will enjoy the fruits of their labor and possibly begin your very own fig family tradition while also supporting our own community members by also donating to Trumbull Social Services.

Please see attached flyer for further information. Please direct any questions to Trumbull Social Services at (203) 452-5198.
