The Trumbull Police Department is welcoming the son of a retired officer to the town’s police force, who is carrying on his family’s legacy by following in his father’s footsteps. Certified  Police Officer Joseph Dzurenda Jr. was hired by the Trumbull Police Department following the  retirement of his father, (Retired) Officer Joseph Dzurenda Sr. who served the Town for over 30  years.

Officer Dzurenda Sr. was hired by the Trumbull Police Department in December 1987, where he  worked in the Patrol Division before his retirement in September 2022.

Officer Dzurenda Jr. was initially hired by the Monroe Police Department in September 2019,  where he attained his police and Emergency Medical Technician certifications before  transferring to the Trumbull Police Department to follow his lifelong dream of becoming a  Trumbull Police Officer like his father.

Officer Dzurenda Jr. is a graduate of Saint Joseph’s High School in Trumbull, then he attended  Curry College where he graduated and obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice Management and Minored in Politics and History. Dzurenda Jr. then attended Western  Connecticut State University where he achieved his Master of Science degree in History, and  then attended Southern Connecticut State University where he received his teaching certificate in History and Social Studies.

Officer Dzurenda Jr. is also the first certified police officer hired by the Trumbull Police Department since the pension benefit was restored. Officer Dzurenda Jr.’s uncle, Thomas Dzurenda, has also been a Trumbull police officer since January 1989, where he also works in the Patrol Division.

Trumbull is currently looking for additional qualified police officer applicants to fill ten (10) vacancies and bring the staff to its maximum authorized level. The Town of Trumbull accepts applications for police officers at PoliceApp.com, and further information is also available on  the Town’s website.
