On March 9, 2025, the Trumbull Police apprehended a man at his residence after receiving a call from a neighbor about a gunshot entering their window. Officers arrested JACOB J. AWAN, age 30, of 12 Walker Road Trumbull, CT for firearms related offenses and EMMA E. PRATES, age 23, of 126 Laurel Street West Haven, CT for violation of a protective order and motor vehicle related offenses.

At approximately 4:55 PM the Trumbull Police Department received a 911 call from a resident of the Walker Road area that they heard gun shots, and a bullet had entered through a front window. The first responding officer arrived on scene and quickly detained AWAN who had a Smith and Wesson handgun concealed within his waistband. At the same time PRATES was seen in a vehicle in the driveway of the residence but left the area immediately after. It was later discovered that PRATES was not allowed to have contact with the suspect due to an active protective order from a previous domestic dispute.

Officers learned that AWAN had fired the two (2) shots within the residence that exited via a large bay window possibly striking near where the departing vehicle was parked in the driveway. Officers located the vehicle driving a short distance from the residence, but the operator failed to stop for police and fled the area a high rate of speed. The vehicle was subsequently located at a residence in West Haven where PRATES was taken into custody.

Officers located several other guns in the house which were legally registered but were seized as part of the investigation.

It was determined during the course of the investigation that no one sustained any type of injuries from the fired handgun rounds. Currently, officers are still investigating the reasons surrounding the discharging of the handgun.

AWAN was transported to the Trumbull Police Department where he was charged with Illegal Discharge of Firearm, Criminal Use of Weapon, Illegal Carry of a Firearm while Under the Influence of Drugs, Negligent Storage of Firearm, Threatening in the first-degree, Reckless Endangerment in the first degree, Breach of Peace in the second degree, Criminal Mischief in the first degree, and Breach of Peace in second degree. He was issued a court date of March 10, 2025, and held on a $750,000 bond.
