[ARCHIVED] 4/18/2017 - First Selectman Herbst encourages Trumbull residents to contact legislative leadership

April 18, 2017 -  First Selectman Timothy M. Herbst on Wednesday encouraged all Trumbull residents to contact legislative leadership in Hartford to oppose Governor Malloy’s proposal to transfer 1/3 of teacher pension costs to local municipalities.  “Under Governor Malloy’s proposal, Trumbull will be responsible for an additional $5.6 million dollars of cost associated with the Governor’s proposal,” stated Herbst.  “This will cause a very dramatic property tax increase in Trumbull, hurting our seniors on fixed incomes and those that are living paycheck to paycheck as they continue to deal with the impact of a state economy that lags behind the rest of the nation.”

First Selectman Herbst shared a recent op-ed written by Michael Tetreau, First Selectman of Fairfield, and a Democrat, to underscore the bipartisan support in opposing the Governor’s proposal.  “This proposal can be defeated if residents voice their concern. The proposal is irresponsible, comes out of nowhere and penalizes well run communities with strong education systems. I encourage all residents to read First Selectman Tetreau’s recent op-ed, which is highlighted below, and click on the link to contact legislative leaders in opposing this initiative.”
